The final day of the Williams Martini teams opening Barcelona test would see Feliep Massa suffer a frustrating day. He would spend the morning completing aero work with constant speed runs but his afternoon session would be limited due to an issue with his car. Felipe would come away frustrated that he did get as much running as he had hoped. The teams next test is next week.
Barcelona Test
25:02:2016 Day Four
Driver: Felipe
Massa
Chassis / Engine: FW38-02 / PU106C Hybrid
Location: Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, 4.655km
Weather: Warm and Dry
Maximum air & track temps: 20şC / 28şC
The final day of testing for the Williams Martini team would again see
Felipe Massa take to the track. This first run would see Felipe run past the
pits slowly conducting aero testing with constant speed runs. His slow pace
was shown in his lap time a slow 1m:50.918. He would improve but again the
lap time was slow, 1m:49.531. Felipe was running on unmarked Pirelli tyres.
Felipe would pit having completed eleven laps. Quickest at this time was
Magnussen with a 1m:25.263 followed by Raikkonen.
Felipe would continue his aero work and would set a 1m:38.216, not that
meant anything. Two hours completed and Felipe had only finished nineteen
laps. Another run from Felipe and he would continue to add to his laps. He
would pit again having completed twenty eight laps. The final hour of the
morning session would see Felipe still in his pit. Raikkonen will go fastest
with a 1m:24.460, running on the soft tyre. Felipe was back out running on
the medium tyre and would move up to eighth with a time of 1m:28.684. With
the lunch time break Felipe had completed thirty three laps. At the front
Raikkonen had improved on the quickest time using the ultrasoft tyre setting
a 1m:23.477, while Magnussen was second.
With the lunch break over it would be a considerable amount of time before
the FW38 returned to the track. He would improve with a 1m:26.942 on one run
but he would pit and would return running on the soft tyres to set a
1m:26.483. He would again pit returning on medium tyres where he would lap
in the 1m:27s. With a red flag he would be forced to pit but would returning
quickly to complete the afternoon session.
Williams Martini Racing return to track on Tuesday 1st March for the second
test in Barcelona, with Valtteri Bottas at the wheel of the FW38.
Rod Nelson, Chief Test & Support Engineer:
Today was one of those days I’m afraid. We spent most of the morning doing
aerodynamic correlation work which was pretty successful. We are getting
through our programme day by day. Sadly, we had an issue with one of the car
systems over lunchtime and that curtailed a lot of our running this
afternoon which we had planned. We know what the issue is, we’ve got a
solution, and now we look forward to next week.
Felipe Massa:
I am not so happy with today - it was not really a useful day. The most
important things was that we carried out our aerodynamic tests this morning,
to understand the numbers and everything around the car. Unfortunately, we
couldn’t run much this afternoon. I had hoped to do more laps than I did.
