Qualifying for the 2016 Chinese GP would see the Williams Martini team secure 5th and 11th grid positions for Sunday's race. Valtteri Bottas would finish in fifth and team-mate Felipe Massa 11th. Both drivers would make it comfortably into the second period but Felipe would suffer in the second from a red flag that would stop him from completing a second run, seeing him out of the final period. Valtteri would easily make it into the final period and was 3rd after his second run but would drop to 5th. He would later say that he could have a good race from here.
