Austrian GP: FP1 sees top ten for Williams Martini

The opening Frdiay practice session for the 2016 Austrian GP would see the Williams Martini team finish with both drivers in the top ten. Felipe Massa would finish in 7th and Valtteri Bottas 10th. It was an uneventful session for the Williams team with both drivers focusing on longer runs on the supersoft tyre. It was encouraging to see that both Williams drivers had achieved their times on the superosft tyre while those in front were on the ultrasoft tyre.
Williams
Martini Austrian GP Friday 1st Practice
Team Summary:
Both Williams Martini drivers would complete their installation lap running
on the soft tyre. The first time of the opening Friday session would be set
by Verstappen with a 1m:11.707, running on the supersoft tyre. He would
improve with a 1m:10.099. More drivers would start to come out with fifteen
minutes of the session complete. Wehrlein was second followed by Hulkenberg.
Hulkenberg was now second with a 1m:10.745. After there first runs Valtteri
and Felipe were second and fifth. Rosberg would go quickest with a 1m:09.154
followed by Hamilton, Ricciardo, Valtteri, Raikkonen, Verstappen, and
Felipe.
Vettel would move up to third seeing Valtteri and Felipe fifth and eighth.
Hamilton had gone quickest with a 1m:08.808 with Rosberg now second. But
Rosberg was on a quick lap setting a 1m:08.166 to again be quickest. With
the forty minute period being reached the order was Rosberg, Hamilton,
Ricciardo, Vettel, Verstappen, Raikkonen, Valtteri, Button, Kvyat, and
Felipe tenth. Rosberg was back out on the ultrasoft tyre and would set a
1m:07.644 to remain quickest. Rosberg would set a 1m:07.373 to again be
quickest setting the fastest lap for the track. Vettel would improve to be
second, 1m:08.022, and Raikkonen fifth, 1m:08.222. This would see Felipe
drop to fifth. Hamilton would improve with a 1m:07.995 to gain be second.
Vettel and Raikkonen were now third and fourth.
After their second runs Felipe and Valtteri would be seventh and tenth.
There was fifteen minutes remaining in the session as Sainz went sixth on
the ultrasoft tyre. Both Williams drivers would return still on their used
supersoft tyre and both drivers would be on longer runs. Felipe and Valtteri
would remain in seventh and tenth with the end of the session. Rosberg would
remain quickest from Hamilton and Vettel.
Valtteri Bottas:
Valtteri was also out on the soft tyre for his installation lap. Valtteri
would return for his first run using the supersoft tyre. He would set a
1m:10.785 to be third. His next lap he would set a 1m:10.318 to be second.
Even though he would improve with a 1m:10.011 Valtteri would drop to fifth.
Verstappen would move ahead of Valtteri seeing him now sixth. Valtteri would
run wide at Turn eight but would continue. Valtteri would continue and
improve with a 1m:09.632 to be seventh. Valtteri would pit having complete
eighteen laps but would return. then pit again after one lap. Valtteri was
back out again currently in ninth. He would pit having completed ten laps
currently tenth with a 1m:08.998. Valtteri would also return to the track
with eight minutes remaining. He was also on used supersoft tyres. Valtteri
would complete nineteen laps with the end of the session.
Felipe Massa:
Running on the soft tyre Felipe would be out first for Williams. Felipe
would also return running on the supersoft tyre and would set a 1m:11.017 to
be fifth behind Hulkenberg. A 1m:10.132 and Felipe was seventh. Felipe would
drop to eighth then ninth. Felipe had improved with a 1m:10.126 but had
dropped to tenth. He would pit having completed fifteen laps. After the
forty minute break Felipe would return on a new set of supersoft tyres.
Felipe would set a 1m:09.336 to improve to be sixth. A 1m:08.824 would see
Felipe move up to third. Felipe would set personal bests in the first two
sectors but would fail to improve his time in the final sector. Felipe would
then pit having complete nine laps. He would drop to fifth then seventh.
Felipe would return to the track still on used supersoft tyres. As the
session came to an end Felipe had completed twenty two laps.
