After a difficult qualifying session hit by variable weather conditions the Williams Martini team would see their drivers qualify tenth and eighteenth. Valtteri Bottas would lead his team-mate Felipe Massa for the 2016 Hungarian Grand Prix. With the pit lane been open it was reported that Felipe was having an issue with his steering rack which would see the Williams mechanics trying to resolve the issue before the pit lane closes. Felipe's issue would be sorted and he would make his way onto the grid. On pole was Rosberg followed by Hamilton, Ricciardo, Verstappen, Vettel, Sainz, Alonso, Button, Hulkenberg and Valtteri tenth. Felipe would report that there was still an issue with the steering but it was driveable. The top ten were all on the supersoft tyre with those of the soft tyre including Kvyat, Perez, Raikkonen, Palmer, Felipe, Haryanto and Ericsson who was starting from the pit lane. All those outside the top ten were on new tyres.

The grid would move off on their parade lap for the seventh lap race. The grid would form and with the lights going out it would be Hamilton leading from Ricciardo but Rosberg would reclaim second. Valtteri was running in ninth with Felipe nineteenth. Verstappen was fourth followed by Vettel, Alonso, Sainz, Button, and Valtteri. Lap five and Hamilton was leading by 1.5 seconds while Valtteri had passed Button with the McLaren having an issue with his brakes. Button would drop to last but was told to stay out. Button would pit on lap ten changing to the soft tyre. Button was under investigation for unauthorized radio content.

Hamilton was slowly extending his lead over Rosberg while Button was given a drive through penalty. Valtteri was still eighth and Felipe now seventeenth. Lap twelve and Rosberg was 2.2 seconds behind his team-mate. Vettel would pit from fifth coming out in eighth. This would see Valtteri move up to seventh while Raikkonen was in ninth. Ricciardo would pit from third on lap seventeen coming back out behind Valtteri with Valtteri now fifth. Lap eighteen and Hamilton would pit joined by Verstappen. Sainz and Valtteri would also pit seeing Rosberg still leading from Hamilton and Ricciardo. Vettel and Raikkonen were ahead of Verstappen who was in sixth. Rosberg would pit on lap nineteen coming back out behind Hamilton. For Williams Felipe was up in twelfth but on used soft tyres while Valtteri was thirteenth on new soft tyres.

Rosberg had closed to be within one second of Hamilton. Hamilton would say that he was struggling for pace. Lap twenty five and Valtteri and Felipe were eleventh and twelfth with Felipe on tyres that had completed twenty four laps. Felipe would pit on lap twenty seven taking on a set of the medium tyres possibly looking at a one stop strategy. Perez would pit from seventh on lap twenty nine coming out in tenth with Valtteri now ninth. Raikkonen would pit from sixth on lap thirty one. He would come out on the supersoft tyre. He would come out behind Alonso and in seventh. Ricciardo would pit from third coming out in fifth. The Mercedes team would tell Hamilton that he must increase his pace or they would pit Nico first.

But all of a sudden Hamilton would put in a quick lap with Rosberg follow him. Felipe was down in twentieth and Valtteri ninth. Vettel was now third followed by Verstappen and Ricciardo. On his new tyres Ricciardo was closing quickly on those in front. Felipe would go a lap down after lap thirty eight. Verstappen would pit on lap forty coming back out in sixth running on the soft tyre. Lap forty three and Hamilton would pit joined by Vettel. Hamilton was back out in second with Ricciardo now third. Raikkonen was now fourth followed by Vettel, Verstappen, Alonso, Sainz and Valtteri still ninth. Rosberg would pit on lap forty four taking on new soft tyres. Valtteri would move up to eighth but would pit on lap forty five. Lap forty six and Alonso would pit from seventh while at the front Rosberg was closing the gap to his team-mate. Kvyat would pit seeing Palmer tenth. But he would spin dropping to thirteenth.

Raikkonen would pit from fourth on lap fifty two coming out in sixth. For Williams Felipe was down in eighteenth with the strategy of running the medium tyre but now working. Valtteri was still ninth and looking to be lapped. At the from Rosberg had closed to be 0.6 behind his team-mate but the gap would grow again. Lap fifty four and Hamilton's lead was back out to 1.2 seconds. The gap would grow out to nearly 3.0 seconds with fifty seven laps completed. Raikkonen would make contact with the rear of Verstappen as he tried to pass the fifth place Red Bull. Raikkonen would complain that Verstappen moved twice. Lap sixty and Rosberg was 2.0 seconds behind Hamilton but it would again drop but the traffic would also play a part with the gap growing again with sixty four laps completed. Hamilton would continue to the finish holding the lead over Rosberg to take victory. For Williams Valtteri would finish in ninth scoring two points for the team. Felipe would finish down in a lowly eighteenth. Again a further disappointing result for the Williams team.
