Team Summary:
With rain having fallen overnight the Williams Martini team would be presented with a damp track as they commenced their final practice session for the 2016 Japanese Grand Prix. Drivers would start to come out on a mixture of wet and intermediate tyres. Both Williams drivers would come out pitting out after just one lap, with the team using the opportunity to carry-out pit stop practice. The track would empty with dark clouds still over the track. Button would be the first tyre to come out on a dry tyre, running on the medium, but would abort his run. Alonso was next out on the same medium tyre with fifteen minutes of the session completed. Alonso would set a 1m:35.935 to set the first time prior to pitting.

Next out was Gutierrez also on the medium tyre, joined by Rosberg also on the same tyre. Gutierrez would run wide at the spoon curve setting a slow 1m:43.949. Rosberg would set a 1m:33.230 to be quickest while Gutierrez would spin at the Esses but was able to continue. Hamilton was also out also using the medium tyre. He would set a 1m:33.284 to be second behind his team-mate. Both Ferrari's were now out on the track joined by more drivers including both Manor and Force India cars. The Force India cars had come out on the hard tyre joined by the Renault's. Raikkonen was now third followed by Vettel and Magnussen. With twenty five minutes remaining neither Williams driver had returned to the track.

Hulkenberg and Perez were fifth and sixth using their hard tyres. But with Verstappen going fourth they both would drop down one place. Magnussen was now seventh also using the hard tyre. Both Sauber cars were out on the soft tyre as Ricciardo went fourth seeing Verstappen fifth. Both Mercedes cars had pitted but Rosberg would return on to what was a very busy track. After their soft tyre runs Valtteri and Felipe were seventh and eighth which was not the best result given the soft tyre. Both Williams drivers would continue to complete laps on the soft tyre with only the soft tyre shod Sauber's out on the track. Drivers were starting to come out on the soft tyres for their qualifying simulations. Rosberg would set a 1m:32.092 to improve his quickest time with Valtteri and Sainz the only cars not on the track.

Vettel was now second with a 1m:32.731 with Verstappen third. Hamilton was now fourth as Valtteri returned to the track. Palmer and Magnussen were eight and ninth with a minute remaining. After their runs Felipe and Valtteri would finish in sixth and thirteenth. Valtteri's car looked a real handful. Rosberg would remain fastest followed by Ricciardo, Vettel, Verstappen, Raikkonen, Felipe, Hamilton, Palmer, Magnussen, and Hulkenberg tenth. Valtteri would finish in thirteenth. Another mixed result for the Williams team as they prepare for qualifying.

Valtteri Bottas:
Valtteri would be out first running on the full wet tyre. Not that the track was close to been wet enough to requiring this tyre but he was only on his installation lap. Valtteri would finally come out going straight onto the soft tyre. Valtteri would commence his first flying lap and would finish with a 1m:34.201 to be only seventh. All those in front of Valtteri were on the medium tyre. Valtteri would pit with ten minutes remaining. During his run on the soft tyre Valtteri would complete a practice pit stop. Valtteri would drop to tenth then twelfth as others went faster. He would drop to fifteenth but had yet to start his quick lap. Valtteri's car still looked a handful and he would only manage a 1m:33.865 to be thirteenth.

Felipe Massa:
Felipe would follow his team-mate out also on the full wet tyre. Felipe would pit after a single lap. With twenty minutes remaining Felipe was still in his garage the last driver yet to come out. He would finally come out also on the soft tyre. His lap was not looking that quick and would finish with a 1m:34.726 to be eighth one place behind his team-mate by 0.5s. Felipe's soft tyres even after a small number of laps were showing wear. Felipe would pit taking on a new set of soft tyres. Felipe was down in seventeenth but on a quicker lap. He would finish with a 1m:33.271 to be sixth behind Raikkonen.
