Team Summary:
With the start of the session there would be a delay before both Williams Martini drivers would come out. The early runners were all on the medium tyre with Perez quickest with a 1m:25.033. Vettel would go quickest with a 1m:24.655 but Raikkonen would go quicker with a 1m:23.143. Verstappen was second followed by Sainz and Vettel. Vettel would move back up to second with fifteen minutes of the session completed. Bottas would drop to the top of the times with a 1m:23.062 while team-mate Hamilton would move up to third with a 1m:23.619. Everyone was still on the medium as Verstappen lost his car at Turn nine taking to the gravel trap but he was able to continue. A lot of the drivers were complaining about the windy conditions.

Vettel would be the first out on the soft tyre. He would set a new fastest time with a 1m:21.220. More drivers were out on the soft tyre with Bottas going quickest with a 1m:20.892 followed by Raikkonen, Vettel, Hulkenberg, Palmer, and Felipe for Williams. Hamilton was also on a soft tyre run going quickest with a 1m:20.802. With forty five minutes remaining the order was Hamilton, Bottas, Raikkonen, Vettel, Ricciardo, Hulkenberg, Palmer, Felipe, Sainz, and Grosjean tenth. Verstappen would go fifth after his soft tyre run. With just under thirty minutes remaining the session would be red flagged in order to remove some debris that had come off one of the Torro Rosso cars that was on the track at Turn nine. The session would restart with both Williams drivers back out. With ten minutes remaining the Williams drivers were ninth and seventeenth. All of the top five cars were on longer runs on the soft tyre. But both Mercedes would change to the medium tyre as the final minutes in the session counted down. The session would end with Felipe and Lance remaining in ninth and seventeenth.

Felipe Massa:
Felipe would be first out for the Williams team running on the medium tyre. Felipe's first lap was a 1m:24.908 to be third behind Perez. This would become sixth as others went quicker. Felipe would improve to be fourth with a 1m:24.522. Felipe appeared to struggle getting the power down. Felipe would drop to fifth behind Hamilton. He would pit having dropped to sixth. Felipe had completed seven laps on his first run. Felipe would return to the track also coming out on the soft tyre. He would move up to third with a 1m:22.015 but would drop down to fifth as others went quicker. This would become seventh and Felipe would pit after a run of five laps. After other runs Felipe would drop to ninth. Felipe would return to the track running on the used soft tyres pitting briefly after a single lap. Felipe would continue his run on the soft tyre.

With the red flag Felipe would pit having completed thirteen laps on the soft tyre. He would return on the same set of soft tyres working on a longer run on the option tyre. Felipe would pit having completed eighteen laps on the soft tyre returning to a medium tyre. He would complete the session remaining on the medium tyre.

Lance Stroll:
Nearly ten minutes into the session Lance would take to the track also on the medium tyre. Lance's first lap time was a 1m:26.756 to currently be twelfth. Lance would also find time setting a 1m:26.084 but he would remain twelfth. Lance would drop to fifteenth despite even setting an improved 1m:25.969. Lance was on the radio complaining about the lack of grip saying that he just couldn't get the tyre to work. He added that it was too easy to make a mistake and that he had just no grip. Lance would pit after nine laps. With an hour remaining Lance was now sixteenth. Lance was also out on the soft tyre but Lance would go off the track at Turn eight having gone through Turn seven way too fast. He would come onto his radio saying that he had made a mistake. Lance would continue his run dropping to eighteenth.

Lance would set a 1m:23.221 to move up to fifteenth. When he pitted after a six lap run Lance was sixteenth. This would become seventeenth 2.4 seconds off the quickest time. Lance's next run would see him back out on a used set of the medium tyres. With the red flag Lance would pit and with the restart would come back out on a new set of medium tyres. Lance would complain about losing temperature in his brakes. Lance would pit from his long run as the session came to an end.
