Team Summary:
Before the start of the first period of qualifying it was announced that Palmer would not be running due to issues relating to a fire in his car. The eighteen minute first period would get underway with everyone coming out on the super soft tyre. Hulkenberg would set a 1m:47.341 but he would be quickly passed. Verstappen and Ricciardo would go first and second, a 1m:43.750 from Verstappen. Raikkonen would go fastest with a 1m:43.419 with Perez and Ocon following. Fourth was Verstappen followed by Kvyat and the Williams pair. Verstappen was now fastest with a 1m:42.860 but Hamilton would go quicker with a 1m:42.384.

Ocon was now third followed by Vettel, Perez, Ricciardo, Raikkonen, Felipe, Kvyat, and Lance now tenth. Bottas would jump to fourth with Verstappen now second followed by Raikkonen. Vettel was now in fourth followed by Bottas, Ocon, and Perez. Ricciardo would move ahead of Vettel. At the front Hamilton was still fastest but now with a 1m:41.983. With the end of the period the Williams drivers were in tenth and twelfth and into the second period.

With both Williams cars in the second fifteen minute period would commence. Everyone was on the super soft tyre and after the opening runs it would be Raikkonen quickest with a 1m:42.114. Verstappen was second followed by Ricciardo and the Williams pair. Hamilton would go quickest with a 1m:41.992 with Bottas now second. Raikkonen had dropped to third followed by Perez, Verstappen, Vettel, Ocon, Ricciardo in eighth. The Williams drivers were now ninth and tenth. Hamilton would set a 1m:41.275 with Bottas a 1m:42.032. But Verstappen would move up to second with a 1m:41.961. Vettel would set a 1m:41.911 to be second behind Hamilton. The Williams drivers were now eighth and ninth. This would become seventh and ninth as the period ended. So both Williams drivers had made it into the final period of qualifying.

The final period would commence both Ferrari and Mercedes cars out early. There was only one Williams out on the track as Bottas went quickest with a 1m:47.201 but Vettel would move ahead with a 1m:43.194. Drivers were having to use laps to get their tyres right before pushing. A 1m:42.261 from Verstappen but Bottas would move ahead with a 1m:41.274 with Hamilton now second. Verstappen was now third followed by Raikkonen and Vettel. Neither Williams had set a time with five minutes remaining. But Ricciardo would make contact with his car ad the wall stopping out on the track seeing the period red flagged.

The period would restart with just over three minutes remaining. Hamilton was able to set a 1m:40.593 to go quickest as the period came to an end. At the front Bottas was second followed by Raikkonen, Vettel, Verstappen, Perez, Ocon, and the Williams pair. Ricciardo was tenth after his qualifying ending with his accident. For Williams Lance was able to out-qualify his team-mate Felipe for the first time, a great result with the Williams team facing the opportunity of securing points come Sunday's race.

Felipe Massa:
Felipe would be first out in the opening period for Williams running on the super soft tyre. A slow 1m:52.263 from Felipe as he worked on getting his tyres right. Felipe would set a 1M;44.047 to go second but he would drop to fourth. This would become fifth then seventh. Felipe would again find time with a 1m:43.429 to be fifth but he would drop to seventh then ninth. Again he would find time with a 1m:43.165 to be eighth. Felipe would go down the escape road at Turn eight but was able to continue. Felipe would pit having completed nine laps.

For the second period Felipe would be first out for Williams running on the super soft tyre. A 1m:43.739 would see Felipe fastest but he would drop to second. This would become ninth with Felipe right behind his team-mate. This would become tenth with seven minutes remaining. Felipe would move up to seventh, 1m:42.735, but this would become ninth. Felipe would pit after a five lap run. He would return on a new set of super soft tyres. Felipe was ninth as he pitted ending his period.

Felipe would come out early in his run in the final period again using super soft tyres. Without setting a time Felipe would pit taking on a new set of tyres and returning. Felipe would return after the red flag period running on scrubbed tyres. He would finish with a 1m:42.798 to be ninth.

Lance Stroll:
Lance would follow his team-mate out also using the super soft tyre. Lance would set a 1m:44.944 to be quickest. He would drop to third behind Ricciardo. He would drop to seventh but was on a quicker lap. He would finish with a 1m:44.428 to now be sixth, right behind his team-mate. Currently tenth Lance would pit. He would return with a new set of super soft tyres. Lance was now twelfth but he would drop to fourteenth. He would improve with a 1m:43.798 to be twelfth.

Lance would also be using the super soft tyre as he started the second period. Lance would go second to Raikkonen with a 1m:43.308 but he would drop to eighth the ninth. Lance was also able to go quicker setting a 1m:42.602 to be sixth. Lance was also back in his pit after a five lap run. Like Felipe he was back out on a new set of tyres. Lance would set a 1m:42.284 to now be seventh.

Lance would remain in his pit but with the red flag he was not able to set a time. With the end of the red flag Lance was back out running on a new set of tyres. A 1m:42.753 would see Lance eighth. Lance has been performing well this weekend.
