Team Summary:
Both Williams drivers would complete their installation laps in the opening
Friday practice for the 2020 Sakhir GP. The first time would be set by Sainz
with a 0:56.631 with Norris second. Both were on the hard tyre as more
drivers started to set times. Giovinazzi and Raikkonen were third and fourth
followed by Fittipaldi, who was replacing Grosjean. Both Williams were back
on the soft tyre. Ricciardo was now fastest with a 0:56.854 now followed by
Raikkonen but Ricciardo was on the soft tyre. Bottas would go quickest with
a 0:55.154 followed by Ricciardo, Kvyat, Russell, Vettel and Leclerc sixth.
The Williams drivers were in 14th and 15th. Verstappen was now in second
from Ricciardo, Kvyat, Gasly, Ocon, Russell, Leclerc, Albon, and Vettel in
tenth with all the top ten using the soft tyre.
The Williams drivers would drop to 18th and 19th with an hour remaining in
the session. Ocon would move up to fifth now followed by Albon, Gasly,
Russell, Leclerc and Vettel. With forty minutes of the session completed the
track would empty as drivers came back in to return their tyres. The first
drivers to return with just under forty five minutes remaining were Sainz,
Norris and Fittipaldi. On the soft tyre Norris would move up to seventh.
Russell on the soft tyre would go quickest with a 0:55.030 followed by
Bottas, Ocon, Gasly, Verstappen and Albon. Now on the medium ad hard tyres
the Williams drivers were out for second runs but after a spin Jack would
pit. Verstappen was now fastest with a 0:54.848, followed by Russell and
Kvyat. Bottas was now fourth followed by Gasly, Ocon, Vettel, Ricciardo,
Leclerc and Albon tenth. Kvyat was able to move up to second to be ahead of
Russell. Russell would go quickest with 0:54.546 followed by Verstappen and
Albon.
Twenty minutes remaining and there were just a handful of cars running. But
as the final ten minutes commenced the track would again becoming busy with
everyone out on the soft tyre except a Williams that was on the medium tyre.
With the end of the session Russell would remain quickest from Verstappen,
Albon, Bottas, Kvyat, Gasly, Ocon, Vettel, Ricciardo, and Leclerc tenth.
Both the Racing Points and the McLaren's would finish outside the top ten
while for Williams they would be down in 18th and 20th. This was a result
that was to a large degree expected.
Jack Aitken:
Jack would commence his first run with the Williams team in the opening
Friday practice coming out on the soft tyre completing two laps without
setting a time. He would return with the soft tyre for a second run and
would set a 0:57.893 to be behind his team-mate. He would improve with a
0:57.702 to currently be tenth. Jack would drop to 18th as more times were
set. Jack was on a long run on the soft tyre. He would improve with 0:57.359
but was now 19th. Jack would also pit completing his run. After the usual
forty minutes stoppage Jack would return again on the hard tyre. Jack had
dropped to 20th and slowest. On his run on the hard tyre he would have a
half spin at Turn 3 but was able to continue. He would return to his pit
after a five lap run due to possibly damaging his tyres in his spin. With
fifteen minutes remaining Jack would return again on the hard tyre. He would
pit after a two lap run but would not return for the rest of the session.
Nichols Latifi:
Nicholas would complete his installation lap using the hard tyre. Nicholas
would return with twenty minutes of the session completed and would set a
0:57.652 to currently be seventh. A 0:57.195 would see him ninth. This would
become 16th as others set times. Nicholas was on a long run having completed
ten laps on the soft tyre and had improved with 0:56.949. Nicholas would pit
after a fourteen lap run currently 17th. Nicholas would return but this time
on the medium tyre. On the medium Nicholas would set a 0:56.802. He would
complete fourteen laps on the medium tyre. Shortly after Jack's return
Nicholas would follow him out again on the medium tyre. With the end of the
session Nicholas would pit having completed sixteen laps. |
