Team Summary:
With the start of the opening Friday practice for the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix
there would be a rush of drivers coming out including one of the Williams
cars. Quickly times would be set with the quickest time rapidly changing
with Ricciardo quickest with a 1m:20.364. But Leclerc would move ahead with
a 1m:17.993 with the only Williams currently 12th. The second Williams car
had yet to come out as Sainz went quickest with a 1m:17.252. As times
improved Leclerc was again quickest with a 1m:16.157 from Sainz, Verstappen,
Norris, Hamilton, and Ricciardo sixth. The only Williams to be running was
12th. Verstappen was able to move up to second and Perez fourth.
Leclerc would go wide at Ste Devote going into the run off area and was able
to continue. Ricciardo was now fourth while Verstappen went fastest with a
1m:15.327 from Leclerc and Sainz. But the session would be Red Flagged when
Schumacher would see his car stop in the pit lane entry with a gearbox
issue. The marshals would recover his car taking it down the pit lane. The
order was Verstappen, Leclerc, Sainz, Ricciardo, Perez, Gasly, Norris,
Hamilton, Vettel and Russell tenth.
With the restart drivers would start to return with the medium tyre now been
seen. Hamilton would move into second using the medium tyre while Ricciardo
was third. Norris on the medium was now quickest with a 1m:15.301 followed
by Verstappen and Hamilton. The Williams drivers were currently 11th and
19th with the second car finally making an appearance. Norris would improve
with a 1m:15.056 now followed by Ricciardo, Verstappen, Vettel, Russell and
Hamilton. Vettel was on the soft tyre for his quickest time while the others
were on the medium.
Verstappen on the medium would go quickest with a 1m:14.712 followed by
Norris and Gasly. Russell was now fourth. Perez was now second ahead of
Norris. Verstappen would have a massive lockup on his medium tyres going
into the runoff area at Ste Devote. Leclerc was again second ahead of Perez
and Norris. The Williams drivers were now 14th and 17th with both now
running on the soft tyre. Leclerc was again quickest with a 1m:14.531
followed by Perez and Sainz. With five minutes remaining the order was
Leclerc, Perez, Sainz, Verstappen, Norris, Gasly, Ricciardo, Russell, Vettel
and Hamilton tenth. The Williams pair were 15th and 18th but separated by
1.6s as the session ended. A difficult session to assess but in terms of the
result for Alex and Nicholas it was very much as one would expect.
Alex Albon:
Alex would be first out onto the track for Friday practice running on the
hard tyre. Alex would set a 1m:22.535 to be eighth. Alex would improve with
a 1m:20.457 to be 12th but a 1m:20.050 would be him improve but dropped back
to 12th again. His next lap was a 1m:18.588 to see him tenth dropping to
13th. This would become 16th even with a 1m:18.042 lap. With eleven laps
completed Alex would have set a 1m:17.995 but remained 16th. He would find
more time with a 1m:17.511 to now be 13th. With a Red Flag he would pit
having completed thirteen laps. With the restart Alex would return on the
soft tyre. He would drop to 14th but a 1m:16.452 would see him eighth then
tenth. As he completed five laps he was currently 11th.
This would become 13th as we would see Alex have a moment at the chicane
losing the back end of his car missing the chicane. Now 14th he would
continue his long ruin on the soft tyre. Even with a 1m:16.110 he was now
14th. Alex would pit switching back to the hard tyre after a fourteen lap
run on the soft tyre. He would drop to 15th as he started his run on the
hard tyre. He would pit but would return with the end of the session to be
able to complete a practice start on the grid.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would be last out in the session but would lose over fifteen
minutes of the session. He was also out on the hard tyre. He would set a
1m:38.307 on what was an install lap but would have to pit with the Red
Flag. With the restart he would return quickly and would set a 1m:24.574 to
be 19th. He would improve with a 1m:20.262 remaining 19th. A further
improvement with a 1m:19.186 from Nicholas as he continued to lap this
tricky circuit. He would pit switching to the soft tyre and would improve
with a 1m:18.257 to be 17th. He would drop to 18th as he continued his run
on the soft tyre currently having completed eight laps. Despite a 1m:17.714
would see him remain 18th as he completed his practice start on the grid
having completed fourteen laps on the soft tyre. |
