Team Summary:
After a Friday that saw the Williams drivers achieve a very mixed result
with Alex Albon 14th and Nicholas Latifi 19th the Saturday practice was now
the opportunity to close the gap between them and the other drivers. The
session would get underway with a Williams out first followed by the Haas
and Aston Martin cars. Alonso was out on the soft tyre as a Williams went
briefly quickest. Ricciardo was next out also on the soft tyre. Alonso would
seta 1m:15.809 to be quickest from the Williams. Next out were the Alfa
Romero's and the Ferrari's of Sainz and Leclerc. Ricciardo was now second
ahead of Nicholas. Alonso would improve with a 1m:14.757 with Bottas second
from Ricciardo and Zhou. Nicholas was now fifth.
The Haas and Aston Martin cars would pit without setting a time. Sainz was
now quickest with a 1m:14.114 from Alonso and Bottas. Leclerc would move
ahead of Sainz with a 1m:14.008 as more cars came out including both Red
Bull cars and the Mercedes of Russell. Perez was now third but Verstappen
would take this spot with the top twelve times all done of the soft tyre.
Hamilton and Russell were now 12th and 13th but this would rapidly change.
Verstappen was now second from Sainz, Perez, Norris, Magnussen, Alonso,
Bottas, Tsunoda and Schumacher tenth. The Williams pair were now 17th and
18th.
Leclerc would set a 1m:13.434 remaining fastest from Verstappen and Sainz.
Perez would go quickest with a time of 1m:13.297 from Verstappen and
Leclerc. Leclerc was now second from Verstappen, Sainz, Gasly, Norris,
Magnussen, Hamilton, Russell and Ricciardo tenth. The Williams cars were now
16th and 19th. Leclerc would continue to improve with a1m:12.885 to be
quickest from Perez and Verstappen. Sainz was fourth from Gasly, Norris,
Russell, Magnussen, Bottas and Hamilton tenth with twenty five minutes left
in the session. Tsunoda was able to improve to be fifth ahead of his
team-mate Gasly.
We would have a Williams now 12th as Norris went third and Magnussen was now
fifth. But we would see a Williams improve to be eighth dropping to ninth.
We would see the Williams cars now 11th and 17th with fifteen minutes
remaining. This would become 14th and 19th while at the front Sainz would go
quickest with a 1m:12.846 from Leclerc, Verstappen, Perez, Gasly, and
Norris sixth. But Verstappen was able to move into second but then Perez
went quickest with a 1m:12.777. But Leclerc would respond setting a
1m:12.702 to again be quickest from Perez and Sainz. But Perez would again
be quickest with a time of 1m:12.554 from Leclerc and Sainz.
Again we would see Leclerc quickest with a 1m:12.517 from Perez and Sainz.
The Williams drivers were currently 15th and 20th as both cars returned to
the track for their practice starts. Perez was again quickest with a
1m:12.476 as the Red Bull and the Ferrari swapped quickest times. But the
session would end with the top ten Perez, Leclerc, Sainz, Verstappen, Gasly,
Norris, Hamilton, Magnussen, Russell, and Alonso tenth. The Williams drivers
would finish the session in 15th and 20th as they completed their starts on
the grid. For the pair the session was certainly a step forward in terms of
times but unfortunately they were pretty much in the same positions they
occupied on Friday.
Alex Albon:
Alex would be the last car to start the session coming out on the medium
tyre. He would set a 1m:16.451 to be 15th one place ahead of his team-mate.
This would become 18th but with a 1m:15.634 he would improve to be 17th.
With a 1m:15.096 he would improve to be 16th. He continued to lap on the
medium pitting after a ten lap run. Twenty five minutes remaining and Alex
would return on the soft tyre. He would improve with a time of 1m:14.456 to
be 11th. He would drop to 12th but his next push lap was a 1m:13.882 to be
eighth. This would become ninth and then eleventh. Alex would pit now 13th
after a seven lap run on the soft tyre. He would drop to 15th as he sat in
the pits. He would return with the end of the session to complete his
practice start.
Nicholas Latifi:
Nicholas would be first out in the Saturday session running on the medium
tyre. A 1m:19.375 from Nicholas to set the first time. He would improve with
a 1m:17.323 to be third. A 1m:16.612 and Nicholas was now fifth. He would
pit after a six lap run and in the pit would drop to seventh and as more
times were set 14th. He would drop to 19th as he sat in his garage. But with
just under forty minutes remaining he would return using the soft tyre.
Nicholas would improve with a 1m:15.811 but this would only see him 19th. He
would drop to 20th and slowest as he continued to lap on the soft pitting
after a seven lap run. Nicholas would set a 1m:14.910 to be 16th. He would
drop to 17th and then 20th. Nicholas would return with the end of the
session to complete his practice start.
