| Jerez - Imola Test
25:02:2003 Day One |
| |
| After
their extensive test session at the Circuit de Catalunya the BMW WilliamsF1
team took to the track again this week, but this time the team had split its
efforts to test at both the Jerez and Imola circuits.
At Jerez we would see Juan Pablo
Montoya and at Imola Marc Gene, with both drivers continuing to work on the
further development of the new FW25 and it systems. With only one week
available for testing ahead of the season's opening race in Australian the
need for this development is becoming even more urgent .
At Jerez Juan Pablo would complete sixty four laps while testing several
tyre mixtures and specifications, different chassis settings as well as
different aerodynamic features. His fastest time of the day would be a time
of 1m:28.537, which was behind the fastest time of the day set by Michael
Schumacher.
At the Imola circuit Marc would use a modified FW24. The Spaniard focused on
extensive tyre tests and ended the day as the second fastest driver, setting
a 1m:24.343. BAR driver Jacques Villeneuve, testing in his BAR005, was
faster than Gené.
For Imola WilliamsF1 Test Team manager Tim Newton had the following
comments: "The weather has been kinder to us here in Italy than our other
test team in Jerez! Here we have been able to carry out some good work with
Marc driving a development of last year's FW24. Despite the rain Juan Pablo
has managed a decent number of laps in Spain however, which will also have
produced some good data for us" |
