No decision yet from BMW

At the launch of the new BMW WilliamsF1 FW25 it was expected that both BMW and WilliamsF1 would take the opportunity to announce an extension of their partnership, but this was not to be.

But for WilliamsF1 team boss Sir Frank Williams he is confident of the continuation of this partnership.

Williams said: "We had a long meeting with BMW yesterday and made a lot of progress. We believe we'll do a deal, we're hoping to do a deal. We're very optimistic."

As for when an announcement could be expected Williams added: "A month or two, we've got some races in the way now."

"BMW have always been very long-term people," he continued, "they may have another option like buy another team or start their own team but the latter would probably take them two or three years. They wouldn't want to come in and go to the back of the field."

For the WilliamsF1 team if they wish to continue to challenge the likes of Ferrari it is essential that they continue a relationship with a car manufacturer such as BMW, so the loss of BMW could have a very serious effect on the team.
