Jerez Test 12:03:2003 Day One of Three

Once again the BMW WilliamsF1 team was out testing, as the team continues development work on the new FW25. The test team was at the Jerez circuit with test driver Marc Gene carrying out the test duties.

With a fine sunny day for the team to test on Marc would continue testing of various components on the new car. At the end of the day his best lap would be a time of 1m:20.362, after completing sixty six laps.

Again the team had very good reliability with the BMW P83 engine running all day long. This would allow Marc to conduct tyre testing for Michelin. The test team would also work further on developing a setup on the car once traction control is banned.

As for the other teams present Toyota's Cristiano da Matta would set the fastest time ahead of McLaren's Alex Wurz. Pedro de la Rosa would be present, this time testing for McLaren. He would finish the day in fourth ahead of Takuma Sato who was testing for BAR.

WilliamsF1 Test Team manager Tim Newton commented on the days testing by saying: “It was a beautiful sunny day to start this three day test. The test team were pleased with Sunday’s result and continued to maintain the hard work needed for the continuous evolution of the FW25. Marc was driving today as the focus was directed towards systems work and suspension comparisons. We were also looking ahead to the ban on traction control which will be introduced during the season and testing the new set-up.”
