Both BMW WilliamsF1 drivers were able to get into the top ten afer Spanish qualifying, with Ralf seventh and Juan Pablo ninth. But from the times the race tomorrow is going to be difficult for the team. Pole was taken by Ferrari's Michael Schumacher.

Spanish GP Saturday Qualifying

Qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix would see both BMW WilliamsF1 drivers finish in the middle of the grid with Ralf seventh and Montoya ninth.

The first driver to take to the track was Minardi's Justin Wilson. He was joined by his team-mate Jos Verstappen. Justin would set a time of 1m:22.104, while Verstappen would finish .133 seconds behind with a time of 1m:22.237.

Ralf SchumacherJordan's Ralph Firman was next and would leave both Minardi drivers behind with a lap of 1m:20.215, 1.9 seconds faster.

Sauber's Nick Heidfeld and Heinz Harald Frentzen were the next tow drivers to qualify. Heidfeld would be slower than Firman in sector two but would end up with the fastest time. Ream-mate Frentzen would move into the lead with a lap of 1m:19.427, two tenths faster than Heidfeld. For Jordan's Giancarlo Fisichella his qualifying would see him go fourth, behind his team-mate Firman.

Now it was the turn of WilliamsF1's Juan Pablo Montoya. His lap would see him take provisional pole but he was only in front of Frentzen by the smallest of margins. His time of 1m:19.377 would be easily beaten.

Next was Jaguar's Antonio Pizzonia who would move in between the two Jordan's. BAR's Jacques Villeneuve would go third, with Ralf Schumacher been the final driver in this second group. He would go faster in sector one two and three, setting the fastest time by over three tenths.

MontoyaFor Renault's Fernando Alonso he would be qualifying in front of his home crowd and he would not disappoint them, taking provisional pole by almost eight tenths. David Coulthard was next out, running in the spare McLaren, was well off Alonso's pace and he would finish third.

For Kimi Raikkonen his qualifying would see his not complete a lap as he would run wide and have to return to the pits, failing to set a time. As a result Kimi will now start tomorrows race from the back of the grid. Mark Webber would move into seventh, while Toyota's Olivier Panis would have an excellent run going second fastest.

The last five would be headed off by BAR's Jenson Button, with the British driver going second. da Matta would start his run but he would finish all the way down in tenth. Now it was the turn of Rubens Barrichello. The Brazilian would go fastest, and it was now down to Trulli and Michael Schumacher to see if they could take pole from the Ferrari driver.

This would not be the case for Trulli as he was down on his team-mate time and would go third. Now it was Michael's turn and in a stunning debut for the new F2003-GA he would take pole making it an all Ferrari front row, Renaults on the second row.
