Ralf shocked with penalty

For BMW WilliamsF1 driver Ralf Schumacher the outcome of last Sunday's German Grand Prix was far from what he had expected. After the race he was penalised for his part in the accident at the start of the race that saw his car, and those of Barrichello and Raikkonen come into contact. This contact would lead to six cars retiring from the race, including Ralf's FW25.

German GP Accident. His penalty will see him lose ten places on the grid for the next race in Hungary. So even if Ralf sets the fastest time in qualifying the best he can hope for is to start eleventh on the grid. It was viewed by the race stewards that Ralf did not take the necessary action to avoid causing the accident.

As for Ralf's view of the penalty, Ralf was quoted in the German newspaper Bild as saying: "I'm truly shocked. I didn't do anything wrong. I'm definitely not a Rambo. Seriously, I feel completely innocent."

The WilliamsF1 team announced that they would appeal the penalty to the International Court of Appeal at the governing International Automobile Federation (FIA).
