Gene looks to replace Montoya

With speculation already started as to who will replace Juan Pablo Montoya at the BMW WilliamsF1 team, team-mate and test driver Marc Gene is looking at the possibility that the team may take him on as a full time driver in 2005.

Gene said that he would be doing his utmost to convince Williams to bring up on as Montoya's replacement.

Gene said: "It is more difficult being a contender when you are not racing every weekend. But at the same time I know that the team were impressed with Monza and I know I am considered.

"I am not the only one. There are other drivers considered and it's not going to be easy to prove that I can be number one for that seat but to know that I am going to be considered really encourages me. I will push even harder than ever to try to get this seat which is going to be very difficult to get."

Whether Gene has done enough to persuade his bosses that he can succeed is yet to be seen, plus the second WilliamsF1 drivers position will be intensely fought.
