After the
difficulties of the opening race in Australia, where the BMW WilliamsF1 team
drivers were beaten by Ferrari, Technical Director Patrick Head acknowledges
the need for the team to get things sorted out for the next race in
Malaysia. If the team fails to challenge Ferrari the Italian team will be
able to open up a significant points advantage.. Head
said: "I'd be very disappointed if we didn't do a lot better in Malaysia
than we did in Australia. Clearly if we allow a situation to perpetuate
where Ferrari are finishing first and second, even if we finish third and
fourth, Ferrari will start opening up a big gap in the Constructors'
Championship. "We can't afford for that to happen so we need to get our act together pretty quickly and start scoring points." Even after a considerable amount of pre-season testing with the new FW26 the WilliamsF1 team was taken by surprise by the performance of the new Ferrari F2004. Head added: "We have stated quite clearly that our targets for the year are both championships so we are obviously off track at the moment for those targets. It is going to be interesting to see how we get on in Malaysia where I hope it will be dry and a lot hotter." |
