BMW WilliamsF1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya qualified fourth for the Malaysian GP. Ralf is down in seventh. On the face of it not a great result but as to what their race strategy is this is unknown so the results come Sunday could be quite different. Again we would have Michael Schumacher on pole.

Malaysian GP Saturday Qualifying Part Two

The results of the final qualifying session could be determined by each teams race strategy, as the teams are required to run their cars as they will run them at the start of the race.

MontoyaThe track temperature down slightly the second qualifying would see the drivers run in reverse order and Jordan's Pantano was able to take to the track. He would set a slow time of 1m:39.902 but at least he made it out. He would use the spare car with his first qualifying problem was related to his gearbox. Bruni and Baumgartner would both set times that will see them at the back of the grid.

Jordan's Nick Heidfeld would move to the top of the times with a lap of 1M;36.569, but for the Jordan team their weekend so far must be very disappointing. Da Matta would jump ahead of Heidfeld with a time of 1m:34.917. This would be an improvement of some 0.7 seconds over his earlier time.

Jaguar's Christian Klein was able to move into second just behind Da Matta, with a time of 1m:35.158. He would be 0.241 behind the Toyota driver. Toyota's Olivier Panis would finish third some 0.7 seconds behind his team-mate. Sauber's Felipe Massa would set the fastest sector one time so far. But after losing time in the final two sectors would finish in second 0.122 behind Da Matta.

For BAR's Takuma Sato his final run would end in the gravel at Turn eleven as he would spin off. This would see the session red flagged given those drivers following additional time to prepare for their runs. Sato will start tomorrow's race from the back of the grid. Montoya would return to the pits where they would replace the fuel that he had lost in doing the exploratory lap prior to his qualifying run. Montoya would be the next car out.

Ralf SchumacherWith the pitlane open Juan Pablo would leave his pit. He would set the quickest time in all the sectors to take provisional pole with a time of 1m:34.054. He would beat his earlier time by 0.9 seconds, but this time was still way off the time previously set by Alonso. He would most likely not remain at the top of the times.

Next came Sauber's Fisichella. He would lose time with a moment at Turn fourteen and would cross the line fourth, a time of 1m:35.061. Ralf Schumacher was next and he would go fastest in sector one, lose a fraction in two, and would not be able to beat his team-mate finishing second, 0.181 behind Juan Pablo. BAR's Jenson Button would begin his lap and was fastest in sector two. Even so he would only finish second with a time of 1m:34.221.

Now we had the first of the McLaren's with David Coulthard out on the track. he would be slower in all sectors seeing him only manage fourth. For Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello he would set the quickest time in the first sector, fast again in the second, and into provisional pole with a time of 1m:33.756 to be 0.298 ahead of Juan Pablo.

Ralf SchumacherNow we have the final five drivers with Webber first out. His run would see him jump to the top of the times. His lap of 1m:33.715 was just ahead of Barrichello. If Jaguar could maintain pole it would be a great for the Jaguar team. Next was Michael Schumacher. He would go fastest in all the sectors and would spoil Mark Webber's day when he would take provisional pole with a time of 1m:33.074. This was a huge 0.641 ahead of second placed Webber. Raikkonen was down after the first sector and he simply could not match Michael's pace. Kimi would finish in fifth. Now we had just the Renault's to run with Trulli first out.

Trulli would be 0.5 down after the first sector. His time would see him drop to a poor eighth. a lap of 1m:34.413. His earlier qualifying time was a 1m:33.264. Team-mate Alonso was the final runner.

Like his team-mate he would lose time through the first two sectors. It would all go wrong for the Spaniard when he would spin at Turn fourteen and beach his car in the gravel. he will start from the back of the grid, a major disappointment for everyone at Renault. So at the end of qualifying we have Juan Pablo in fourth and Ralf seventh.
