Next weekends Canadian Grand
Prix sees the BMW WilliamsF1 team return to the track that saw them triumph
in 2001, with Ralf Schumacher winning. Now in 2002 BMW Motorsport Director
Gerhard Berger sees this race as one where the WilliamsF1 team can once
again beat Ferrari. Despite
the fact that Montoya was to retire in Monaco and Ralf Schumacher could only
finish a distant third Berger was encouraged by Montoya's pole position. Given the fact that the Michelin-shod McLaren took the victory, Berger believes that Michelin are making inroads into Bridgestone. Berger, on the BMW web site, said: "Monaco made me wonder. Maybe the Ferrari isn't that powerful. Maybe it was only the tyres that made the difference." Michelin have a new tyre compound to offer their teams in Montreal this weekend. Berger is also pleased with the lower failure rate that the WilliamsF1 team has achieved this year. In 2002 the team has only recorded three retirements so far. In respect of their improvement in reliability Berger added: "We're better than last year. Even then we had good performances, but we didn’t reach the finish line often enough. We have become more reliable." |
