Canadian GP Saturday 2nd Practice

The final practice before this afternoon's qualifying would see the BMW WilliamsF1 pair of Montoya and Ralf Schumacher finish with the second and fifth fastest times. Ralf had been third but his time was disallowed as he cut the chicane. Again the WilliamsF1 drivers had to cope with the Ferrari's. Montoya had difficulties with his brake balance running wide at turn thirteen on several occasions.

Ralf SchumacherAlex Yoong would be the first man out of the pits by doing a practice start. But it would be a very slow start to the session with very few cars running. Rubens  Barrichello would attempt to set a fast lap, setting a time of 1m:14.2 on a worn set of tyres.

Minardi's mark Webber would spin at the Senna-S. back at the front Ferrari's Michael Schumacher would set a time that would see him lead by 0.071 secs. But Michael would go even faster, setting a time of 1m:13.966. It would appears that the Bridgestone tyres are better on the second flying lap, which might influence the approach in qualifying. With half an hour of practice remaining before qualifying Ralf would take to the track on a fresh set of Michelins.

Ralf would set a new fastest time at T1, but his lap would be ruined by Trulli who had a huge spin, but he could continue. Team-mate Montoya would set a time of 1m:13.646 and he take the lead by 0.320 secs. Barrichello would hit the wall early in the session ending his session as the suspension was damaged.

So after 22 minutes the top six was Montoya, Michael Schumacher, Barrichello, Ralf Schumacher, Heidfeld, and Fisichella. Again Michael would attempt a quick lap and was ahead at T2. On a new set of tyres Michael would set a time of . 1m:13.395 and go fastest. With seventeen minutes remaining, Ralf would improve his time and go fourth. But he is still a second behind his brother> he would have another un spoilt by the spin of another car. Arrows driver Frentzen would move up to seventh.

In the meantime Mark Webber had moved up into twentieth, 1.5 ahead of Yoong, who is again back down in last position. De la Rosa lies in between. Jenson Button would improve, but was still down in fifteenth. So the top six was Michael Schumacher (1:13.395), Montoya (0.3), Barrichello (0.9), Ralf Schumacher (1.0), Heidfeld (1.4), and Fisichella (1.6).

Michael Schumacher would manage to put in another quick lap, only 0.1 down his own pace. In the meantime Sauber's Felipe Massa was now in fifth, but it looked like he was running on low fuel. McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen would go  out on a new set of tyres and try and improve as he was 1.6 secs down the pace at the moment. But he would not improve, but team-mate Coulthard would jump from twelfth to fifth, 1.3 secs behind the lead.

In the closing moments Juan Pablo would have had an off and damage a minor part of the car brake off. Ralf would set a new fastest time moving up into third.

With the session over Michael Schumacher would lead Montoya and Barrichello Ralf's third fastest time was disallowed as he cut the chicane.

Overall both BMW WilliamsF1 drivers are looking good for qualifying, but it will be a fight with Ralf's brother Michael for pole.
