United States GP Friday 2nd Practice

The BMW WilliamsF1 team would have an encouraging start to their weekend at Indianapolis with Juan Pablo Montoya finishing the second practice session in third while team-mate Ralf Schumacher was in sixth. The only problem that either driver had to contend with was a spin from Ralf in corner eight midway through practice. Juan Pablo was the first driver to drop into the 1m:10 second bracket.

Montoya with Mario AndrettiAt the front it would again be Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello who would set the fastest time of the session. Joining him at the front was BAR test driver Anthony Davidson. Rubens time of 1m:10.365 was six-tenths of a second faster than the BAR and a new record. Behind Juan Pablo came Michael Schumacher who would have a spectacular spin while he worked through longer runs working through tyre selections for the race. He would suffer from blistering Bridgestone tyres. Michael would make a mistake at turn eleven later on in the session, performing a double-360 degree spin across the grass before returning to the track.

Next came BAR's Jenson Button in fifth followed by Ralf. Team-mate Sato, would be involved in an accident with Sauber's Felipe Massa when he was to dived down the inside of Massa early in the session. The end result was that both cars touched and Sato's session who come to a quick end. Massa would later call Sato "mad". Sato would still set a time good enough for fourteenth.

Ralf SchumacherJaguar's Mark Webber would finish in eleventh despite spinning during the session. Team-mates Bjorn Wirdheim and Christian Klien back in fifteenth and sixteenth positions respectively. Wirdheim's Jaguar would stop in the pitlane but he was able to return to the pits.

For Renault their day was not that productive with Fernando Alonso crashing into the barriers just minutes into the session and Jarno Trulli could only set the twelfth fastest time. Sauber's Giancarlo Fisichella was twelfth with team-mate Massa down in seventeenth.  Practice resumes at 3pm CET on Saturday.
