| Reasons for engine failures | |
The Canadian Grand Prix
would see both BMW WilliamsF1 drivers retire with engine failures. For Juan
Pablo Montoya it was while he was attempting to chase down the leader and
for Ralf it was just after he had completed the race.
After the race both engine were
sent back to Munich for examination and it was announced by BMW that it was
a broken valve which had caused Juan Pablo's engine failure, while the
problem that was with Ralf's engine related to a piston. BMW motorsport
director Mario Theissen said: " On Wednesday we dismantled the engines. Juan Pablo's
engine stopped in the race due to a broken valve. On Ralf's car, a problem
with a piston appeared after he had crossed the finish line. It actually was
not a failure of the piston itself but of the operating conditions." |
