| Italian GP Friday
2nd Practice |
| |
| The final Friday practice
session at Monza would see both Antonio Pizzonia and Juan Pablo Montoya
improve their times and positions, with Antonio and Juan Pablo fifth and
seventh respectively. It was a good start to the weekend, but
unfortunately it was marred by Antonio's crash late in the session. He
was to damage his car at the Parabolica when he left the track and
crashed into the tyre barriers.
The second session of
practice for the Italian Grand Prix would see Jordan's Timo Glock out
onto the track first. He would be joined by several other drivers
including Toyota's Ryan Briscoe and Jaguar's Bjorn Wirdheim. Briscoe
would move to the top of the times. Other cars would take to the track
including BAR's Anthony Davidson.
BMW WilliamsF1 driver Antonio Pizzonia would move into second with a
1m:23.155, while Davidson would go fastest with a time of 1m:21.745.
WilliamsF1's Juan Pablo Montoya would move into second, a time of
1:22.905, to be in front of his team-mate. But Pizzonia would fight back
and with a time of 1m:22.526 again occupy second. Juan Pablo would
improve his time but not enough to challenge Antonio.
For Jordan's Nick Heidfeld his session would come to a quick end when he
was to stop on the side of the circuit with a problem. It was later
found that he suffered an engine failure, which will cost him ten places
ion the grid. He would not take part in the rest of the practice.
Coulthard can only manage eleventh on his first run. Now we would see
Sauber's Felipe Massa move into fifth with a 1m:22.807. As for Coulthard
his next run would see him improve to jump into third, with a time of
1m:22.394.
McLaren team-mate Kimi Raikkonen would move into second after his first
flying lap, a time of 1m:22.018. Rubens Barrichello would go fifth
fastest while BAR's Jenson Button was sixth. Briscoe would improve with
a 1m:22.197, good enough for third. After fifteen minutes of the session
Michael Schumacher would complete his first quick lap but he could only
manage eleventh fastest with a time of 1m:22.749. He would improve to be
second on his second
flying lap but was still half a second off Davidson's time, a 1m:22.280.
Jaguar's Mark Webber would put in a quick lap to be fifth, a time of
1m:22.392. BAR's Takuma Sato would come out and with the quickest times
in the opening two sectors would storm home with a time of 1m:21.313 to
go to the top of the times. He would be challenged by Antonio but, after
setting the fastest first sector, would abort his lap. But team-mate
Juan Pablo was close to Sato's sector times but would finish his lap in
second with a time of
1m:21.419 and move into second.
With thirty minutes of the session remaining Michael Schumacher would
come out and with a time of 1m:21.080 move back to the top of the times.
As the clock counted down and with twenty minutes left in the session it
was still Michael fastest. Team-mate Barrichello was in fourth with a
1m:21.528. The Renault team saw their drivers in eighth and tenth, with
Trulli leading Alonso.
BAR's Jenson Button would improve to go second, a time of 1m:21.124. The
same went for Antonio who would move into third with a time of
1m:21.264. But for Antonio it would all go wrong when he was to crash
heavily at the Parabolica. His car would cross the gravel before hitting
the tyre barrier side on, destroying the right rear of the car. The
wheel had been torn from the car. Antonio was able to get out of the car
and walk away.
With ten minutes left to run Coulthard would improve from sixteenth to
ninth. But it would be team-mate Raikkonen, on a high after his win in
Belgium, who would blitz everyone with a time of 1m:20.846 to be
fastest. Rubens Barrichello was not to let Kimi have it all his own way
and the Brazilian would challenge Kimi's time but would just miss going
fastest, a time of 1m:20.899.
So with the clock counting down the session would come to an end with
Kimi Raikkonen on top of the times, but with the drivers from Ferrari,
BAR, and WilliamsF1 all looking very competitive in their times. The
times are far closer than in the first practice session. |
