Italian GP Saturday 4th Practice |
| |
| The
final practice session at Monza would see the BMW WilliamsF1 drivers,
Juan Pablo Montoya and Antonio Pizzonia, finish in second and eighth
positions. If it had not been for a mistake on a quick lap Antonio might
have been higher up the order. But the performance of both drivers is
very encouraging as they wait for qualifying.
With BMW
WilliamsF1's Juan Pablo Montoya fastest in the opening Saturday practice
session the teams would make their final runs prior to this afternoon's
qualifying. Kimi Raikkonen would come out in his McLaren, joined by the
two Toyotas. Kimi's first lap was a 1m:22.137. With more cars taking to
the track Renault's Fernando Alonso would move into second, while Zonta
and Button were third and fourth.
After
his fastest time in the first session Juan Pablo would set his first
time, a lap of 1m:22.148 to be second. He would improve on this setting
a time of 1m:21.605, to go fastest. This time was one tenth faster than
his earlier time.
The session would see yellow flags come out for Jordan's Giorgio and
Minardi's Zsolt Baumgartner. Pantano lost control of his Jordan before
the chicane, crashing into the side of the Minardi. The marshals were
able to quickly clear away the debris. A 1m:22.583 would see Michael
Schumacher move up into fourth. Renaults Jarno Trulli would set a time
of 1m:22.054 to be third.
Rubens Barrichello goes second with a 1m:21.676, to be less than a tenth
of Juan Pablo's time. But it would be Alonso who would beat Juan Pablo's
time with a stunning lap of 1m:20.987. The Spaniard has been on the pace
all the weekend. But Juan Pablo would respond setting a time of
1m:20.653 to again be fastest. BAR's Jenson Button would move into
second with a time of 1:20.734. David Coulthard would record a 1m:21.058
to be fourth.
It was all happen as the drivers went out to see what times they could
look at achieving in qualifying. A 1m:20.856 would see Raikkonen go
third fastest. Pizzonia would also join in the rush of quick times but a
mistake through the third sector would see him finish with a 1m:21.278
to be only sixth. He would try again but would abort his lap and return
to his pit.
With fifteen minutes remaining in the session the Ferrari's would come
out. Olivier Panis would improve to be tenth, but we would have the
unusual sight of Michael Schumacher in eleventh. But Michael would
respond with a fastest final sector which would see him set a time of
1m:20.898 to now be in fourth. Team-mate Barrichello did what Michael
could not do by moving to the top of the times with a 1m:20.555. With
the end of the session Alonso would improve to be fourth with a
1m:20.773. |
