BMW WilliamsF1 driver Juan pablo Montoya will start the Brazilian Grand Prix from second position, with Ralf in seventh. This was a strong showing from Juan Pablo and Ralf given their practice difficulties. In their last race hopefully their grid positions will see them produce a good race result.

Brazilian GP Saturday Final Qualifying

For the BMW WilliamsF1 team the final qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix was a session with mixed results. It would produce a great result that would see Juan Pablo Montoya in second position on the grid. But for Ralf Schumacher his run would see him only finish in seventh. But after what appeared to be a severe lack of pace during the practice sessions was turned around by the drivers and team.

MontoyaIn the final qualifying session of the 2004 Formula One season the first five drivers out would be Baumgartner, Bruni, Glock, Klien and Heidfeld. After the strong showing by several drivers in the opening qualifying session the final one was to be just as tight.

The drivers would now be running with their race setups. Baumgartner would start his lap and would finish with a 1m:13.550. Team-mate Bruni would not even attempt his lap staying in his garage, preferring to start from the back of the grid. Next was Jordan's Timo Glock. He would take provisional pole with a time of 1m:13.502, just .048 faster than Baumgartner. Christian Klein would start his lap and he would be a second up after the first two sectors. He would finish his lap with a time of 1m:12.211 to be 1.29 seconds faster than Glock. Heidfeld would make his run and would be three tenths down after sector two. He would fail to beat Klein's time, only setting a time of 1:12.829 to be in second.

The next group of drivers was made up of Zonta, Webber, Villeneuve, Alonso and Button. Zonta would start his lap and was fastest after the second sector, finishing his lap fastest with a time of 1m:11.974. For Mark Webber his lap would see him fastest after the first two sectors. He would beat Zonta's time with a 1m:11.665 to go to the top of the times. The Renault's of Villeneuve and Alonso were next with the Canadian staring his lap and setting sector times close to those of Webber. he would cross the line with a time of 1:11.836 to now be in second position.

Ralf SchumacherTeam-mate Alonso would start his lap. He would go fastest in the first and third sectors to finish with a time of 1m:11.454 to take provisional pole. But Jenson Button would easily eclipse the Spaniard's time finishing his lap with a time of 1m:11.092 to move into first. He would have a moment in the second sector but was able to pull it all back together to complete his lap. The first driver out in the third group was Toyota's Jarno Trulli. He would lose time to Button in the opening sector. He would lose further time in his lap and would finish with a time of 1m:11.483 to be in third.

Fisichella was next out. Giancarlo would lose time in the first two sectors, completing his lap with a time of 1m:11.571 to be in fourth. Now it was the turn of Kimi Raikkonen. He would be a tenth down after sector one, set the fastest second and third sectors, to finish in first position with a time of 1m:10.892.

Team-mate Coulthard was out in his final qualifying run for the McLaren team. It would not be a quick run losing almost half a second at the second sector. He would finish in a disappointing seventh with a time of 1m:11.750. For BAR's Takuma Sato his run would see him match Kimi in the first sector, set the fastest second sector time, but he would lose time in the final sector managing third fastest just behind Button. Now it was down to the final five drivers with Ralf leading the group followed by brother Michael, Massa, Juan Pablo, and Barrichello. In his last qualifying run for the WilliamsF1 team Ralf would start his lap. He would be three tenths down after sector one, a further tenth after the second.

Ralf SchumacherRalf would be the fastest driver in sector three so far but would cross the line only in fourth with a time of 1m:11.131. Michael Schumacher was next out and he would be 0.005 down after sector one. He would lose a large amount of time in the second to finish in fifth. With his ten grid position penalty Michael will be near the back of the grid.

Sauber's Felipe Massa would be fastest in sector one. He would maintain this in sector two, but would lose time in the final sector to lose ut to Kimi by just 0.03. Despite this he was in an excellent second. Now it was Juan Pablo's turn. He would be just behind Kimi in sector one, 0.009 down after sector two, but in the final sector would pull out a lead on his future team-mate to go fastest with a time of 1m:10.850. The final driver was Rubens Barrichello and he would be three tenths up after sector two. Rubens would complete his lap with a time of 1m:10.646 to take pole position for the Brazilian Grand Prix, mush to the delight of the Brazilian crowd.
