| Jerez Test 30:11:2004 Day One | |
| The BMW
WilliamsF1 returned to the track for their second test session, this time at
the Jerez circuit in Spain. Present for the opening day was Mark Webber and
test driver Antonio Pizzonia. In varying conditions, cloud followed by sun, Mark and Antonio were the only two drivers testing. This will change on Wednesday when the WilliamsF1 team will be joined by eight other teams. At the end of the day Mark would be quicker than Antonio, with both drivers continuing development work on the FW26, including testing of components for the 2005 FW27 as well as tyre testing for Michelin. Mark would set a best lap time of 1m:19.016, completing eighty four laps. Antonio was only fractions behind, setting a best lap time of 1m:19.037, completing seventy laps. Both drivers spent a considerable amount of time doing longer runs. Wednesday will see Nick Heidfeld take over from Antonio allowing the team to assess his potential as the driver to join Mark in 2005. On Thursday Heidfeld and Antonio will run together. Heidfeld's test was brought forward after Anthony Davidson was not able to secure a release from BAR to allow him to drive one of the WilliamsF1's cars. Nick was due to test on December 9th. |
