Day four
of the BMW WilliamsF1 teams Jerez test would see the team have their first
opportunity of 2005 to see Nick Heidfeld and Antonio Pizzonia testing at the
same time. Both drivers would continue to use the interim version of the
FW26.
Both
drivers would continue the teams preparations as they continued to do
development work on components for the new FW27. Nick would carry out tyre
tests for tyre supplier Michelin. He would also work on various engine and
chassis setups. Nick would complete 144 laps with a best alp time of
1m:17.039.
For Antonio his test programme would see him focusing on evaluation of
various break ducts, traction control and cooling systems. His best
lap time would be slightly behind that of Nick, a 1m:17.177. Even though it
was not reported photos did show that Antonio did have an off track moment
during the day. Both Antonio and Nick completed several practice starts.
WilliamsF1 Test Team Manager Tim Newton commented on the days testing. He
said: "We had a much more productive session today, the penultimate of this
week’s test. Antonio spent the majority of the day evaluating various new
systems on the interim FW26. Nick Heidfeld returned to the track today and
worked on different set-up options on the car. Both drivers also carried out
tyre testing for Michelin.”
Both Nick and Antonio will
continue their testing duties tomorrow, on the last day of this week’s tests
at Jerez.
Also reports have come out in
regard to problems that Mark Webber is having with the braking
characteristic of Williams F1 FW26. In a report in the British Autosport
magazine Webber said that fixing the problem is crucial.
Webber said: "I am normally not that sensitive, but we have to get on top of
it. We know what the problem is but not how to fix it.'' |
