BMW WilliamsF1's Nick Heidfeld was sixth in the final practice session for the European Grand Prix. Team-mate Mark Webber was in thirteenth as the team gets ready for this afternoon's single qualifying session. It looks like it is going to be a difficult qualifying for Mark and Nick.

European GP Saturday 2nd Practice

The final practice session for the European Grand Prix did not see the result that the BMW WilliamsF1 team was hoping for with Nick Heidfeld an encouraging sixth but Mark Webber was way down the time sin thirteenth. Both drivers would limit their track time completing nine laps each. Qualifying appears as if it is going to be a difficult time for the team.

WebberThe start of the second Saturday practice session would see Red Bull's Tonio Liuzzi first out onto the circuit. After a short while he was joined by a group of cars including McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen. Liuzzi would set the first time of the session, a 1m:34.415. But Kimi would easily pass them time with a very quick lap of 1m:31.606. Toyota's Jarno Trulli would set a time of 1m:31.738. With ten cars out on the circuit Ralf Schumacher would set a time of 1m:32.468 to move into third.

The Renaults of Alons0o and Fisichella were in fourth and fifth. Montoya would go fastest with a time of 1m:31.287, from Raikkonen, Trulli and Ralf. Montoya would improve on his time with a 1m:31.116. For the BMW WilliamsF1 team Nick Heidfeld would move into third with a time of 1m:31.612, his personal best time for the German.

For Mark Webber he was down in seventh with a time of 1m:32.054. Jordan's Narain Karthikeyan would spin his car but was able to return to the track. Michael Schumacher was in ninth with a time of 1m:32.187, while team-mate Barrichello was in sixteenth. Trulli was able to take third from Nick with a time of 1m:31.612. Rubens was now in seventh with a time of 1m:32.029 with just over twenty minutes left in the session.

Alonso was on a quick lap with the fastest first sector, 29.5 seconds. Team-mate
Fisichella was now in seventh. Alonso's lap would continue with fastest in the second sector with a 37.5. He would finish with the fastest lap seen so far this weekend, a time of 1m:29.987. He would be very hard to beat.

Heidfeld in his garageKimi was pushing also going fastest in the second sector, and with a brilliant third sector would beat Fernando's time going even faster with a lap time of 1m:29.798. For BAR Takuma Sato was now in third with a 1m:30.645. Team-mate Button was in fourth. It was all starting to happen with Montoya attacking his team-mates time. Juan Pablo was able to put in a very quick lap with a time of 1m:29.789 to go fastest. With fifteen minutes remaining Michael Schumacher was now in sixth with a 1m:31.026. Trulli was looking very quick but his lap would see him only move into fourth with a time of 1m:30.552, after losing time in the second sector.

Nick and Mark were in ninth and thirteenth. Liuzzi was now in eighth with a time of 1m:31.572. Team-mate Coulthard was in fourteenth. For Renault Fisichella would also move into the top six going fourth fastest with a time of 1m:30.071, but he did lose time in the final sector so he may have gone even faster. So far only three drivers had set times in the 1m:29 second bracket. Nick and Mark were now in tenth and thirteenth.

Looking at the speed figures neither WilliamsF1 driver was to be seen. The fastest speed was that of Raikkonen with 311 kph. With five minutes remaining most of the drivers were in their pits getting ready to make their final runs.

But as expected the cars would all come out for their final runs with just minutes remaining. The Ferrari's of Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello were way down the order in ninth and tenth. Kimi would move into the top spot with a 1m:29.680 as the session came to a close. Nick was able to improve his time to now be in sixth, with a time of 1m:30.559. Mark was still in thirteenth.
