Change engine suppliers

In an interview for Autosport BMW WilliamsF1 driver Mark Webber indicated that he felt the team would be better off starting the 2006 season with a new engine supplier rather than continuing with BMW.

Webber said that the team should make a "clean break" when it comes to BMW. The team should not accept the position of been the second team for BMW.

Webber said: "That is just what I think. BMW have done it (bought Sauber) for a reason and I have got a lot of respect for them. I have been here only five minutes compared to them, because I arrived while the whole thing was rolling, but for the team I think it could be better to have a new start."

As for which engine supplier the WilliamsF1 team would use its open to question, but it is believed that the team has already had discussions with Toyota, Honda and Cosworth. But given the short time left in the year adopting a new engine supplier may be difficult not only for the WilliamsF1 team but also the engine supplier itself. BMW has already said that they would be happy for WilliamsF1 to remain a BMW supplied team.

As for any concerns about his future with the WilliamsF1 team Webber spoke of his trust in the teams management to come up with a solution.

Webber added: "This (the BMW deal) wasn't part of the programme, there is no question about that for me. I have got a lot of trust in Frank and Patrick. It is not ideal because you want harmony within a team, but I have been through tougher times before and Frank is a fantastic individual.

"We have got to find a way to get better results next year, even if it is with BMW. It is not a question of recovering but making sure that we can turn things around and get in a position to be strong."
