WilliamsF1 team
drivers Mark Webber and Nick Heidfeld answered questions exclusively for the
WilliamsF1 Supporters regarding the WilliamsF1 team and their performances
in the season so far. You can also listen to the audio of these interviews

1. How have you found working and driving for the WilliamsF1 team, what
qualities does the team have that sets them apart from other teams you have
driven for?
MW: Well first of all Frank is a huge inspiration and not many teams or no
teams have someone of his inspiration in my book. He is an incredible guy
along with Patrick and I have huge respect for them so that's my attraction
to come here and ah there a team that is dedicated to winning and there very
realistic with themselves. They are not a team that dreams about results
they just work hard and do it. Its been very very good working with the guys
here. I have enjoyed it, I would have liked to have done better for them of
course but together hopefully we have a good second half of the
championship.
NH: I think I settled with the team quite quickly so that made life easy for
me straight away and I enjoy working with the team, with the engineers, with
the mechanics. There is a very good atmosphere and on one hand I have to say
that most people in Formula One work quite similar, they are all very
professional. What stands out for me at Williams is that they seem to be even more willing
to win and give a bit more that teams that I have worked for in the past.
2. Has the season gone as well as expected, better or worse than what you
first thought it would be, and in what way?
MW: Well obviously the results have been very thin on the ground, I have had
one podium and there could have been opportunities to have another one so I
have made a few little mistakes so we would have been better to have more
pace as well that makes it easier so on both sides we could have done a
better job. The season has definitely gone a lot worse than we expected.
NH: It depends on from which perspective you see. If you look at it from
before I joined the team before we did bring the new car I hoped that we would be
able to fight for victories straight away, so from that perspective I am not happy.
I think if you look at it from when we did bring out the new car it seems that
we had problems with our speed with the new car um looking back at then I am
happy because we improved the car a lot, we have a couple of podiums, we
have one pole position and made some good progress.
3. What has been the highlight of the season so far?
MW: Ah (long pause) probably Monaco. That was a good weekend for us, we
would have liked to have gotten a better result but that's been the
highlight.
NH: I can not put it down on one race, a very enjoyable feeling was Malaysia
where I finish on the podium for the first time this year, the first time
with the team and I came from tenth position and through some good fights so that
was very nice and then obviously of course also my first ever second place
in Monaco and the week after the same position at the Nürburgring at my home
Grand Prix and pole position on top of that so its all of those.
4. What has been the most disappointing aspect of the season so far?
MW: Probably Nürburgring first corner. When you always go out very early in
a race it is very hard to take so I am not aiming to do that again for a long
time.
NH: Um too many DNF's in the races.
5. What do you think the team and yourself can achieve in the rest of the
season?
MW: Hopefully we can try and win before the end of the year because the
competition is very tough. I think the competition is in incredible shape at
the moment so we have got a lot of hard work to do together ah to get to the
front and hopefully we can get some good strong podiums but winning would be nice.
NH: I hope that we will manage to improve the car as much as BMW Williams
have shown they are able to in the last couple of years.
