For the BMW Williams F1 team the
2005 British Grand Prix would be a repeat performance of the disappointing
result that they had to cope with in France. Mark Webber and Nick Heidfeld
would finish in eleventh and twelfth places respectively, with both drivers
having been lapped by the leaders.
With
Renault's Fernando Alonso on pole and his nearest rival Kimi Raikkonen back
in twelfth on the grid the drivers took up their positions on the grid for
the 2005 British Grand Prix. In second was BAR's Jenson Button. BMW
WilliamsF1 drivers mark Webber and Nick Heidfeld would start from eleventh and
fourteenth positions.
Takuma Sato's car has stalled while trying to get to the grid. The start of
the race would see Montoya pass Alonso going into Turn two with Button in third.
Kimi was already into eighth. Barrichello was in fourth with Fisichella and
Trulli making up the top six. Mark and Nick were in twelfth and thirteenth. The
safety car would come out as the organisers were having trouble getting Sato's car
off the grid. Sato would eventually be pushed into the pitlane.
Webber was able to get past Klein to now be in eleventh, some 9.0 second s
behind the leader. With the safety car leading the field it would pull in
after just one lap and the race would start again. Sato would start his race
from the pit lane, a lap down. Kimi was right behind Michael Schumacher
challenging the Ferrari for eighth.
Lap three and Montoya was still leading from Alonso, 1.3 seconds, with
Button third. Juan Pablo would set a fastest lap, a 1m:23.251. Juan Pablo was

on lap six out of sixty. The McLaren and Renault drivers were trading fastest
sector times as they fought it out for the lead. Klein was just 0.1 behind Mark and
been held up by the FW27. Kimi was still looking for a way past Michael's Ferrari but was finding the
going difficult. Kimi was now some 16 seconds behind his team-mate who was
leading. Klein was to make a mistake running wide while trying to pass Mark, which
would see Nick get past him so now the two WilliamsF1 cars were in eleventh
and twelfth.

close battle at the front which could be decided by their race strategy.

Fernando. Kimi was still trying to get past Michael and was seeing his chances of a
good result disappear as a result. Montoya would improve his lap time with a

every chance that he would be lapped before the end of the race. Mark was
still in a disappointing tenth. Lap thirty seven and Kimi would set a new
fastest lap, a 1m:21.303, as he closed to be just 4.6 seconds behind Button. Lap thirty
eight and it was down to 3.5 seconds. Just as predicted Nick was lapped by the

stopped for just 4.9 seconds. Alonso was now 1.8 seconds behind Montoya, with Kimi
16.4 seconds behind the Renault with ten laps remaining. Fisichella db
Button were in fourth and fifth. Michael and Rubens were in sixth and
seventh. Ralf was in the final points scoring position.
Lap fifty one and Alonso had closed the gap to Montoya to now be just 1.2
seconds. The next lap it was now 0.9 seconds. Would Juan Pablo be able to
keep the lead? Juan Pablo would respond to the challenge and on lap fifty
three his lead was now 1.1 seconds. Kimi was 15.4 seconds behind Alonso,
making it a McLaren 1-3. Lap fifty four and it was still 1.1 seconds. Kimi
had stopped trying to close the gap to Alonso as Alonso's lead had grown to
now be 16.1 seconds. Mark and Nick were in eleventh and twelfth.
Lap fifty six and Montoya was 1.6 seconds ahead of Alonso. The next lap it
had grown to be 2.0 seconds. Fisichella had dropped back from Kimi so the
Finn looked secure in third in another brilliant driver from eleventh on the
