Both BMW WilliamsF1 drivers would struggle in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Nick Hedfeld was in twelfth while Mark Webber was down in sixteenth, some 2.5 seconds slower than the pole time. Mark would suffer from having to run early in the session.

Hungarian Grand Prix Qualifying

Qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix would see Kimi Raikkonen first out after
retiring in the previous Grand Prix in Germany. Given the tight nature of the
Hungaroring circuit qualifying is vital. Kimi would start his lap and despite
been the first driver out would set a quick time of 1m:20.891.

HeidfeldNext out was the first of the BMW WilliamsF1 drivers Mark Webber. Mark would see himself lose four tenths to Kimi in the first sector. The erst of his lap would be a real struggle for Mark, much like his lead up to qualifying has been. He would lose another second in sector two and would finish with a time of 1m:23.495 which should see him down the grid. Mark's time was a massive 2.5 seconds slower than Kimi's. The first of Minardi's, Robert Doornbos, was next out and he would complete his lap with a time of 1m:25.484 to move into third.

The next driver out was Tiago Monteiro but the Jordan driver would abort his lap after having to make an engine change on his car that would see him at the rear of the grid. For Jordan team-mate Karthikeyan his lap would see him set a time of 1m:25.057 to finish ahead of Doornbos after a good final sector.

The second group of drivers was started by Sauber's Jacques Villeneuve. The Canadian would lose time been 1.3 seconds down on Kimi's time after sector two. The end of his lap would see him set a time of 1m:22.866 to move into second but he was almost two seconds down on the McLaren. The first of the quicker drivers was out next with Toyota's Jarno Trulli been just off Kimi's time after sector one. He would lose a further tenth in the second but in a very strong final sector would move ahead of Kimi to take provisional pole with a time of 1m:20.839. Next came the second Minardi of Albers. The Dutchman would finish his lap with a time of 1m:24.443 to finish ahead of his team-mate.

The first of the BAR's was next out and Sato would move into third with a time of 1m:21.787. The second FW27 was out with Nick Heidfeld looking to beat his team-mate Mark Webber who was currently in fifth. Nick would be close to Trulli in sector one, loses half a second in sector two, to finish with a time of 1m:22.086 to move into fourth. Nick was over a second quicker than Mark. Apart from one session Nick has been ahead of Mark all weekend. The third group was kicked off by Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello. Rubens would match Trulli's time in sector one.

He would be close to Trulli in sector two and would finish his lap with a time of 1m:21.158 to be in third. Rubens lost time in the final sector. Next came Red Bull's Christian Klein. After sector two the Austrian was over seven tenths behind Trulli. He would complete his lap in fifth position with a time of 1m:21.937. The second Sauber of Massa was next. His lap would see him finish in seventh with a time of 1m:22.565, to be ahead of his team-mate Villeneuve.

HeidfeldThe second Red Bull was next out and his lap would see him finish behind his team-mate in seventh. David's time was a 1m:22.279. Could Ralf Schumacher match team-mate Trulli's time. Ralf would be quickest in the second sector but would finish with a time of 1m:20.964 to be in third. Despite this the Toyota drivers were looking very strong for the race. That left us with the final group of five drivers. The first driver of this group would be Ferrari's Michael Schumacher.

Michael would start his lap and was fastest after the first sector. He would be eight tenths ahead of Trulli in the second and would complete his lap with a time of 1m:19.882. He was 0.957 ahead of Trulli but there was a question over how much fuel he was running with. Now the first of the Renault's as Fisichella started his lap. The Italian was two tenths slower than Michael in sector one. After a slow second sector he would finish with a time of 1m:21.33 to be in sixth.

FW27 Steering WheelNow it was down to the final three with Jenson Button out and starting his lap. Jenson was two tenths down after sector one. He would lose further time in the second. His time would only be good enough for sixth, a time of 1m:21.302. The final two and Juan Pablo Montoya was out on his flying lap.

He would be very close to Michael's first sector time but he would be half a second down after sector two. The end of his lap would see him finish in second with a time of 1m:20.779 to be 0.897 behind Michael. The final driver was Renault's Fernando Alonso. Despite a small mistake at Turn one he was just one tenth down on Michael's time after the first sector. Like other driver he would lose time in the second to cross the line with a time of 1m:21.141 to be in sixth.

This would see Ferrari get their first pole of 2005. For the BMW WilliamsF1 team Nick and Mark would finish the session in twelfth and sixteenth grid positions. Once again the race is going to be a very difficult affair for the pair with the best they can hope for been some points.
