In a qualifying
session that would see the rain stay away the BMW WilliamsF1 drivers of Mark
Webber and Antonio Pizzonia would finish in tenth and fifteenth grid
positions respectively.
Renault would be
forced to change Fisichella's engine prior to qualifying
seeing him drop ten places on the grid. The first driver out would be
Jordan's Narain Karthikeyan out first driving the new EJ15B. He would finish his lap
with a time of 1m:51.675. Next out was Minardi's Christijan Albers. After
sector one he was half a second up on Karthikeyan. By sector two his lead
was over a second and he would finish with a time of 1m:49.842 to go fastest.
Robert
Doornbos was next and after sector two was four tenths ahead of his
team-mate. He would cross the line with a time of 1m:49.779 to move ahead of
Albers. The next driver was the second Jordan of Tiago Monteiro. He would
finish his lap ahead of his team-mate and in position three, a time of
1m:51.498. The final driver in the first group was BAR's Takuma Sato. By
sector two he would be a second up on Doornbos. His lap was a 1m:48.353 but
this was slower than he had been able to achieve in practice.
Red Bull's David Coulthard was next out and he was two tenths up after
sector one. But a poor middle sector would see him finish in second with a time of
1m:48.508. Now it was the first of the BMW WilliamsF1 cars that of Mark
Webber. Mark would complete his lap with a time of 1m:48.071 to be three
tenths up on Sato. The second Red Bull that of Christian Klein was out and
would lose time in sector two. He would finish his lap with a time of
1m:48.994 to be in fourth.
The first of the Ferrari's, that of Rubens Barrichello, was next out and his
lap would see him a tenth down on Webber after sector one. He would lse
further time in the second and would finish his lap with a time of 1m:48.550
to be behind Coulthard. Next out and the Sauber of Jacques Villeneuve was
fastest in the first sector. Sector two would see him lose a big slice of
time such that at the end of his lap he was behind Rubens, a time of 1m:48.889,
to be in fifth.
The first of the third group was Michael Schumacher. Sector one and Michael
was just behind Mark. But in sector two he would pull back time to be seven
tenths up. Michael would finish with a time of 1m:47.476 to be half a second
in front of Mark. Massa was next out and he would move into second with a
time of 1m:47.867. With his team-mate in fourth Jenson Button was next out.
After sector two Jenson was half a second down on Michael. He would finish
his lap in third with a time of 1m:47.978.
The second of the BMW WilliamsF1 cars was out, that of Antonio Pizzonia. In
sector one he was right with Michael but the second would see him lose
almost a second. He would finish in a disappointing ninth five places behind Mark.
Ralf Schumacher was up on Michael after sector one, sector two he was a
tenth down but he would finish his lap fastest with a time of 1m:47.401.
The final group would be started by Toyota's Jarno Trulli. His sector one
pace was close to Ralf. But in sector two he would pull eight tenths off Ralf
and would cross the line with a time of 1m:46.596 to go fastest. Now it was the
first of the McLaren's that of Kimi Raikkonen. Even though he lost time in
the middle sector Kimi was able to pull it back and finish ahead of Trulli
with a time of 1m:46.440.
The first of the Renault's was that of Fisichella, the Italian set to lose
ten grid positions due to an engine change. He would be fastest in the opening
sector by a big margin. But he would lose time in the second to finish his
lap behind Kimi with a time of 1m:46.497. The second Renault of Alonso was next
out and his lap would see him half second down after sector two. This would
see him finish in fourth behind Trulli. There was just one driver left to
run that of Juan Pablo Montoya. Hw was able to stay ahead of Kimi across all the
sectors finishing fastest with a time of 1m:46.391. . |
