It would be a fantastic fourth place finish for BMW WilliamsF1's Mark Webber in an incident filled Belgium Grand Prix. Team-mate Antonio Pizzonia was involved in a collision with Juan Pablo Montoya in the closing stages of the race, seeing him not finish but classified 15th.

Belgian Grand Prix Review

With an all McLaren front row and the BMW WilliamsF1 drivers down in tenth and fifteenth grid positions the grid would move away on their formation lap for the 44 lap Belgian Grand Prix. Both Minardi cars would start from the pits. There did not appear to be a lot of standing water which would be the cause of major problems.

WebberWith the start of the race we would see Montoya leading from Trulli and Raikkonen. But Kimi would get past Jarno to move into second. Alonso would start to challenge Trulli. Michael and Ralf were fifth and sixth. Mark was down in tenth while Antonio had dropped one place to be sixteenth. At the end of lap one Juan Pablo was 1.2 seconds ahead of Kimi. Ralf would lose places to the BAR's with Sato and Button now fifth and sixth and Ralf eighth. Fisichella was attacking Mark for tenth, eventually passing him.

Lap two and a fastest lap for Montoya, 1m:56.034. Antonio was now in fourteenth while Mark had dropped to twelfth. Mark was some 16.0 seconds behind the
leader. A group of drivers had formed up behind Sato with Button, Ralf, Massa, Coulthard, and Fisichella all running close together. Kimi was just 1.5 seconds behind Juan Pablo after lap four. Trulli was 3.7 seconds behind the second placed McLaren.

Fisichella would try to pass Coulthard at Le Combes but was not able to pull it off. Albers had pitted from last on lap five. Fisichella was just 0.3 seconds behind the Red Bull of Coulthard. Finally Giancarlo was able to get past and into tenth. Ralf was challenging Jenson for seventh. Lap seven and Montoya's lead was down to just 0.9 seconds. Alonso was 6.2 seconds behind second placed Raikkonen. The track was drying so much so that drivers were deliberately looking to put their cars in the water on the track.

Lap eight and Fisichella would pass Massa for ninth. Mark was just 0.8 seconds behind Coulthard. Ralf would pass Jenson and would start to close on sixth placed Sato. Jenson had Fisichella right behind him. Kimi was now just 0.6 seconds behind Juan Pablo as they started lap ten. Doornbos would go a lap down. Fisichella was closing in onto Button in eighth. But for the Italian it would go wrong when he was to crash at Eau Rouge. His accident would see the Safety car come out and this would see a rush of drivers take to the pits. Mark would change to dry tyres on his stop. Juan Pablo would pit before Kimi. The only driver not to stop was Villeneuve. Giancarlo had taken too much kerb on his entry into the corner and spun his car into the barriers. He was able to get out of his car OK.

Schumacher & SatoThe order was Montoya from Villeneuve, Ralf, Raikkonen, Alonso, and Massa. Mark was in twelfth while Antonio was in fifteenth. Lap fourteen would see the Safety Car come in and Villeneuve would run wide at the hairpin almost
collecting Alonso. Michael ad Sato would collide taking each other out of the race. Takuma ran into the back of the Ferrari, which would see Michael talk to Takuma no doubt expressing his displeasure. Rubens was now in seventh while Montoya would set a fastest lap, 1m:55.988 as he pulled away from second placed Ralf Schumacher. Kimi was third and Villeneuve had dropped to fourth. The top ten was Montoya, Ralf Schumacher, Raikkonen, Villeneuve, Alonso, Massa, Barrichello, Monteiro, Webber and Button. Alonso was attacking Jacques but could not get past.

Lap fifteen and Mark was now in eighth and Antonio twelfth. It looked like Mark had made two stops during the Safety Car period to change his dry weather tyres. Antonio had also two stopped. Lap eighteen and Ralf was just 0.8 seconds behind the leading McLaren. Kimi was 6.1 seconds behind Ralf. Antonio was right behind eleventh placed Coulthard, but this would not matter as David would pull his car off the track with smoke coming from his blown engine, laying down oil in the La Source hairpin. Villeneuve was the fastest car on the track at this time.

Jacques would pit on lap twenty one, taking on fuel and intermediate tyres. He would return in eighth. At the end of this lap Montoya's lead was just 1.1 seconds. Kimi was 5.9 seconds behind Ralf, with fourth placed Alonso 8.9
seconds behind Kimi. Mark was now in seventh 3.1 seconds behind sixth placed Barrichello. The following lap and it was down to 2.7 seconds. Lap twenty three and Albers would pit again. Jenson was challenging Villeneuve at the Bus Stop chicane for eighth. The track had reached a point where the drivers would be looking to move onto dry tyres.

Lap twenty five and Jenson would pass Jacques at Pouhon, passing on the
outside. Ralf would pit taking on fuel and dry tyres. He would come back out in fourth. He would have a moment with his car taking to the grass but was able to recover. After been passed by both Barrichello and Webber he would return to the pits to change back to intermediates. The gamble to change to drys when he did did not pay off. Lap twenty six and Juan Pablo's lead was now 4.9 seconds with Kimi closing in onto his team-mate. Ralf was now in fourteenth.

Webber Lap twenty seven and Mark was now just 0.8 seconds behind fifth placed Rubens. Alonso was now in third and Massa fourth. Antonio was in tenth. Jordan's Tiago Monteiro was now in eighth, but was only 1.5 seconds ahead of Villeneuve. But Jacques was having a hard time of things as he would be passed by Antonio. Lap twenty nine and Kimi would set a fastest lap, 1m:55.964, as he closed the gap to Montoya to now just 2.2 seconds.

Lap thirty would see Massa pit from fourth, changing to dry tyres. Lap thirty and Kimi was pushing Juan Pablo, a new fastest lap of 1m:55.848, and he was now just 1.4 seconds behind Juan Pablo. Alonso was now 14.7 seconds behind the second placed McLaren. Lap thirty one and Monteiro would pit from eighth. Massa was now in eighth. Lap thirty two and Rubens would pit allowing Mark to move into fourth. Rubens would take on just fuel. Klein would pit from twelfth. Massa would spin his car at the Bus Stop chicane.

Lap thirty two and Kimi has another fastest lap, 1m:55.775, to be just 0.4 seconds behind Montoya. Alonso and Mark would pit. Alonso would continue with intermediate tyres, taking no risks. Lap thirty four and Juan Pablo would pit from the lead avoiding the problem of having Kimi trying to pass him on the track. Button would also pit from fifth. Juan Pablo would continue with intermediates. Massa would pit again. Jenson would take on just fuel. Antonio would pit from seventh.

Lap thirty four and Kimi was pushing setting another fastest lap of 1m:53.810, to be 26.4 seconds ahead of second placed Montoya. Mark was running in fifth. On lap thirty five Kimi would pit. Would he return in front of Juan Pablo? Kimi would continue with intermediates. Kimi would return in the lead. Mark was right behind fifth placed Button after been passed by the Briton at the Bus Stop. With nine laps to go the order was Raikkonen from Montoya, Alonso, Barrichello, Button, Webber, Ralf Schumacher, and Pizzonia in eighth.

Trulli would crash his Toyota at Malmedy in sector two. He was able to get out of his car OK bringing out local yellow flags. Lap thirty seven and Kimi's lead was out to 10.9 seconds over Montoya. Alonso was 16.3 seconds behind Juan Pablo. The next lap and it was now 14.7 seconds. Button was closing in onto Barrichello. Mark would pit again seeing his chances of scoring points fade. He would change to dry tyres. Jenson was ale to pass Rubens for fourth.

Kimi was still pushing hard at the front, even though his lead was now 18.4 seconds ahead of Montoya on lap thirty nine. Lap forty one and Antonio would also pit taking on dry tyres. Mark was in seventh but was travelling quickly setting a fastest first sector. Rubens would also pit from fifth. Mark would set a fastest lap on lap forty, 1m:52.370. Ralf Schumacher would also pit.

For second placed Montoya his race would come to an end when his car was hit by Antonio. The pair would collide at the Fagnes chicane. Antonio's car had its left front wheel hanging off the car. With all the pit stops Mark was now in fourth. Kimi was still in the lead with Alonso second with two laps remaining. Kimi would ease off his pace as the race drew to a close. He would start his last lap, crossing the line to take victory in the 2005 Belgian Grand Prix. Alonso was second followed by Button, Webber, Barrichello, Villeneuve, Ralf Schumacher, and Monteiro.
