| Button signs to unnamed team | |
| Jenson Button’s manager John
Byfield announced that Button has signed a contract for 2003, but that the
team could not be announced just yet. It was announced yesterday that Button had been dropped by the Renault team in favour of test driver Fernando Alonso. Byfield said: "I am pleased to say that Jenson does have a secure contract so his future in F1 is assured. We shall be having a formal press conference during the course of this coming week together with Jenson's new team." Button has been linked to teams those of BAR and Sauber. Button would replace either Olivier Panis at BAR or Felipe Massa at Sauber. Button admitted that he was happy that he had already sorted out his drive for 2003. Button said: "I was slightly surprised at the decision because this season has been good and the team has done a terrific job. I think Jarno and I have worked well as team-mates. So, yes, I did have a feeling of slight shock at the news. Button added: "However I think I am in good shape for next year. I am looking forward to the opportunity. Obviously, at this time, I am not able to say any more, certainly not for a few days. But I know what I am doing and where I am going." If Button moves to another team it will also sort out the problem that exists for WilliamsF1 team management with Button contracted to them. |
