Pizzonia & Rosberg look to
WilliamsF1 |

Two drivers who
are looking at securing a full time drive with the WilliamsF1 team in 2006
are current team test drivers Antonio Pizzonia and Nico Rosberg. With the
team yet to make any sort of announcement regarding who will partner Mark
Webber in the team in 2006 both drivers are out to impress their current
employers.
For
Antonio he will again be filling in for the injured Nick Heidfeld for the
final two races of the 2005 Formula One season. Despite the fact that he has
not raced at either the Suzuka or Shanghai circuits the Brazilian believes
that he can use these two races to impress the WilliamsF1 team enough to see
them offer him a drive in 2006.
In an interview
with Autosport Antonio said: "I really don't know [about the future], I am
talking to a couple of other teams but also to Williams. It would be nice
to stay as I know the team, but doing well in the next two races would mean
a
lot, that is what I should concentrate on.
He added: "They [the races] could open up opportunities. The team knows I
had some missed opportunities in Belgium and in Brazil, doing well in the
next two will not harm me."
"I am happy for that. It's two brand new tracks but it will not harm
me to have two [new] circuits under my belt. I found out about this on
Sunday,
when I was in Brazil. There were all sorts of stories flying but I knew I
had a
chance, and I can help the team, other things did not get into my head so
much.
As for Nico Rosberg securing the 2005 GP2 championship certainly did not do
his chances of been retained by the WilliamsF1 team any harm, but if it goes
beyond his current test driver role to that of full time driver with the
team is yet to be seen. Nico has revealed that he is in discussions with the
Williamsf1 for 2006 and he is confident of securing a drive with the team.
Many observers have him as the favourite.
In an interview with Autosport Rosberg said: "Definitely that [F1] is the
next step, and I can't believe I'm actually talking about it like that."
"That seems the next step, and for sure I'll have a good chance for next
year –
at least a test driver, and maybe even a race drive.
"I'm still talking to Williams and BMW, but I think probably at Williams as
a
test driver for sure, and maybe even a race drive is a small possibility –
it
hasn't been spoken about really, but who knows." |
