With the
announcement that Nico Rosberg will be joining the WilliamsF1 team as their
second driver for the 2006 F1 season current team test driver Antonio
Pizzonia has spoken of his desire to remain in Formula One but not with the
WilliamsF1 team.
Antonio
spoke of how he was looking to secure a 'Friday' third driver role with
another team, including BMW and the newly announced Super Aguri team.
In an interview for Speed TV Antonio said: "I am talking with them and all
the other teams that will have a third Friday car next year.
"I have just
turned 25 and am still very young. I have received offers from other series
but I want to stay in F1 - I think I deserve to be in it."
Antonio is somewhat surprised by the WilliamsF1 teams move to take on a
driver who will pay for his drive, in the role of the team third Friday
driver.
As for his
failure to get the second drive with the WilliamsF1 team Antonio added:
"Nico has the backing of companies that want a German driver to fill Michael
Schumacher's shoes when he retires.
Antonio did not
rate Nico very highly. He added: "He has potential, but has never been quick
in the tests he did." |
