On a cold day
the WilliamsF1 team would complete their four day test at the Circuit de
Catalunya. Replacing mark Webber for the day was team test driver Alex Wurz.
He would join Nico Rosberg.
At
the end of the day Nico Rosberg would finish quickest of the Bridgestone
supplied drivers with a time of 1m:15.829 to be sixth fastest time. Nico
would complete forty laps. Alex would finish with a time of 1m:18.133 to be
tenth fastest. Both drivers would focus on tyre testing for Bridgestone with
Alex carrying out longer runs during the day.
In an interview for autosport.com Alex spoke of the day and the teams work
on their new seamless gearbox.
Alex said: "I was not expecting to go quick with those tyres, but I did good
work and we did long runs, which was good. On the gearbox the improvements
we had in the last two weeks have been very big. It is still not our
strongest point but we are pretty good there, it was a good test."
WilliamsF1 Technical Director Sam Michael commented on the days testing. He
said: “Today Nico and Alex finished testing in the cold conditions in
Barcelona. Nico worked on tyre testing for Bridgestone, focusing on their
different compounds. Meanwhile, Alex concentrated on long runs to
investigate various mechanical set-ups and brake cooling. We tested some new
aerodynamic parts for the FW28 this week and confirmed they are all working
as expected.”
Simon Corbyn, Head of F1 Race Engineering Cosworth, added his views:
“Cosworth completed this week’s Barcelona test in reasonable shape. The
first day was difficult as we had to stop running Mark’s primary Series 2
test engine when it developed a leak which couldn’t be fixed trackside. In
addition, Nico suffered an engine failure, although this was at high mileage
and was an earlier spec engine. Fortunately, the remainder of the test was
rather less eventful as Alex successfully exceeded the two race weekend
target mileage on his Series 2 engine, plus we were able to complete
valuable engine calibration work in preparation for Bahrain.” |
