Wurz second fastest in opening Imola Practice

WilliamsF1's Alex Wurz would be second fastest in the opening Imola Practice. Neither Mark or Nico would take to the track during the session. It was a fairly quite session that saw eleven drivers fail to set a time.

 
San Marino GP Friday 1st Practice
 

The opening Friday practice session for the 2006 San Marino Grand Prix would see only a handful of drivers take to the track to record a time. With five minutes remaining in the session it would be WilliamsF1's Alex Wurz who had posted the fastest time, a 1m:25.132.

 WurzIn second was the BMW Sauber of Robert Kubica with a time of 1m:25.942. The first of the Honda drivers was in third with Alex Davidson setting a time of 1m:26.012. In the closing minutes  Davidson would have several moments during the session but was able to get away without any damage to his car.

Michael Schumacher would move into fourth with a time of 1m:26.244. His next lap would see  him set a time of 1m:24.751 to move into the top spot.

The first of the Toyota's of Jarno Trulli was now in fifth followed by Robert Doornbos in the first of the Red Bull cars. The Red Bull driver would have a moment at the Variante Alta in which he nearly crashed into Ide. Both drivers would take to the grass but were able to continue. Doornbos was followed by Massa and Coulthard. Kimi Raikkonen was in ninth.

With the end of the session neither Mark Webber of Nico Rosberg had taken to the circuit, even for an installation lap. Neither of the race drivers for Renaults, BMW Sauber, Honda, and the McLaren of Montoya had set a time. Like the WilliamsF1 race drivers Jenson Button was not to take to the circuit preferring to sit things out.
