Monza Test 15:06:2006 Final Day

The final day of the WilliamsF1 team would see Mark Webber replaced test driver Alex Wurz, joining Nico Rosberg as the team continued their preparations for the next races in North America.

The team would continue testing the Series 4 Cosworth engine but would also take the opportunity to test a new Series 5 development engine. Cosworth will look at the results to determine the teams engine plan for the next two races. In Canada both Mark and Nico will be using new engines that will have to last both American races.

The team would also test new parts for the gearbox as well as various brake materials in preparation for the demanding Gilles Villeneuve circuit which is very hard on brakes. Both drivers would also conduct further tyres tests. Mark would finish the day in sixth with a best time of 1m:23.916 while Nico was in ninth, 1m:24.169.

WilliamsF1 Test Team Manager Mike Condliffe commented: “Today, Mark joined Nico in Monza for our final day of a three day test. Mark continued the testing of some new gearbox parts and also tried some alternative brake materials. To conclude his day, Mark completed a tyre compound evaluation for the Canadian GP. Nico had a varied test today doing some set-up work, engine development and some construction and compound testing for Bridgestone.”

Simon Corbyn, Head of F1 Race Engineering, Cosworth added: “Monza is one of the toughest circuits for Formula One engines and this week Cosworth ran two Series 4 ‘race spec’ engines significantly beyond our current two race weekend life limit. We also track tested a new Series 5 ‘development spec’ engine for the first time. Results from Monza now need to be analysed to finalise the engine plan for the next two races.”
