United States GP Friday 1st Practice

Formula One would return to the Indianapolis circuit for the United States Grand Prix. After the disaster of 2005 Formula One is very conscience of putting on a good race. For the WilliamsF1 team the race in America was one where they must reverse their run of poor performances. Nico would get a new engine for this race as he did not finish the last race in Canada.

For the team it will be test driver Alex Wurz who will take on the greatest part of the running. With the start of the session Red Bull's Robert Doornbos would come out first followed by Kubica, Wurz, Montagny, Mondini, Jani, and Davidson. Yamamoto and the MF1's of Albers and Monteiro would also come out. Several of the drivers would return to the pits after their installation lap. But Alex would stay out. Davidson would set the first time, 1m:15.397. Alex was in second with a 1m:15.464 after setting his first lap in the 1m:16 second bracket.

WurzDavidson would improve his time with a 1m:14.659. Liuzzi and Speed had also come out for the first laps. But Speed would stop at the end of the pit lane. Liuzzi, Davidson and Alex were the only drivers on the track. Liuzzi would pit. Davidson was now down to a 1m:13.837. Alex had improved slightly with a 1m:15.294. Doornbos, Kubica, and Mondini were now back out. Alex would pit while Kubica would move into second with a 1m:14.239. Doornbos and Mondini were fourth and fifth. Davidson had also pitted after setting a time of 1m:13.837. Kubica would improve with a 1m:13.990.

Torro Rosso's Neel Jani was now in third with a 1m:15.149. Yamamoto was slowest with a 1m:22.877 some 9.1 seconds off the quickest time. Kubica was now fastest with a 1m:13.721. Alex was back out on the track. Kubica would return to his pit. With forty minutes left in the session there were only three drivers on the circuit. Davidson and Kubica would come back out after short times in their pits. Kubica would improve slightly with a 1m:13.721. Davidson would move to the top of the times with a 1m:13.154. Alex was still in fourth. But Alex would drop one place when Doornbos moved into fourth, 1m:15.225.

The Friday drivers were putting in a lot of laps, with Alex having completed eighteen already in the session. Kubica would pit again. Doornbos would improve with a 1m:15.018 but remained in fourth. He would pit. Trulli would be the first of the big team drivers to come out. He was joined by Ralf Schumacher. Jani was third but now with a far better time of 1m:13.882. Both of the Toyota drivers were now back in their pits. Alex was now down in sixth as Mondini moved ahead of the WilliamsF1 driver. Ralf was back out joined by Renault's Fisichella. Both drivers would complete just one lap and pit.

Alex was doing long runs now having completed twenty four laps. Kubica was now down to a 1m:13.502, but still in second. Albers would spin his MF1 on his out lap but was able to continue. Davidson would put in a very quick lap, 1m:12.852 to be over 0.6 seconds ahead of Kubica. Fisichella was back out on the circuit but would quickly pit. He was joined by Davidson. Alex had now completed thirty laps.

Alex was now fourth, 1m:14.966. Alonso had completed an installation lap with thirteen minutes remaining in the session. Alex would finally pit. Red Bull's Christian Klien was now out on the track. Now we had Raikkonen, Coulthard, Montoya, and Button all come out for installation laps. Davidson was out and on a quick lap. Doornbos would put his car into the gravel. Davidson's time was a 1m:12.083. Mondini was in fourth pushing Alex in to fifth. Heidfeld and Barrichello had come out with six minutes remaining. Kubica was still second but Button's first lap would see him in third, 1m:13.189. Michael Schumacher and Villeneuve were also out on the track. Monteiro would spin his car at Turn eleven.

Barrichello would move ahead of Button seeing the Honda's third and fourth. Michael's first lap would see him move into second with a 1m:12.458. Neither Mark or Nico had come out so far in the session with just two minutes left. Only sixteen drivers had set a time. Michael would run wide at Turn four and spin his car into the gravel. With the end of the session the order was Davidson followed by Michael Schumacher, Kubica, Barrichello, Button, Jani, Mondini, Alex, Speed, and Doornbos would make up the top ten. Neither Mark or Nico were to have any track time, the same as they did in the previous Grand Prix in Canada. They also missed the first Friday practice.
