After Fernando Alonso earlier in the week admitted Ferrari have the advantage in the up coming Trans Atlantic, he has also told Ferrari that they will not have it all their own way either. Fernando has warned rivals Ferrari that the momentum is with McLaren, and they aim to keep it going.

With McLaren securing a dominant 1-2 in Monaco, which saw Alonso and Lewis Hamilton lap every runner except Felipe Massa in third, Alonso's brimming with confidence.

This has led the double world champion to believe that the Monaco result coupled with McLaren’s continuous development programme, has given McLaren the edge.

Fernando was quoted as saying: "We have a great momentum in the team right now after such a fantastic result in Monaco, which is a positive way to be going into the North American double-header," he said.

"There has been no opportunity to test since Monaco; however the team has been pushing hard off track to keep the momentum going."

Last year it was Fernando Alonso with his then Renault team which secured victory ahead of Michael Schumacher and Kimi Raikkonen, with the latter handing second to Schumacher after hitting the skids at the infamous marbles.

Alonso admits it will be a tough to repeat that victory but has every confidence in the team.

He also pointed out that he doesn’t seem to have the greatest of records in the ‘American’ double header.

 

"Until last year, I hadn't had great results in Canada, so it was fantastic to win there. It is always a tough race, and you see a lot of retirements because you are stressing the whole car with the high speeds and the hard braking zones,"

And Fernando’s optimism comes with announcement that McLaren will be going to Canada with a new revised aero package, McLaren are confident they can get the maximum out of the new system at the high speed track.

"We have some new packages on the car for Montreal; we are all pushing hard to attack and fight for more race victories," he said. "It is a good circuit to race on as there are a number of places you can overtake, which makes it more exciting for the drivers, teams and fans."
