The Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula One team have completed Saturday’s three part qualifying session for this weekends Chinese Grand Prix. Current championship leader Lewis Hamilton has pulled a stunning lap out of the bag to take pole position for tomorrows race. His team mate Fernando Alonso made a mistake in the second sector and consequently will start the race in 4th position.

Current world championship leader Lewis Hamilton has set the fastest lap time for this weekends Chinese Grand Prix and will consequently start in pole position for tomorrows race, in which he could clinch the world drivers title, as long as he finishes ahead of his team mate Fernando Alonso, and his main Ferrari rival Kimi Räikkönen.

After setting the fastest lap in all three practice sessions Kimi Räikkönen will start the Chinese Grand Prix in second place, just a tenth of a second behind Britain’s Lewis Hamilton.

Ferrari’s Felipe Massa will start the race in 3rd place two tenths shy of pole man Hamilton. Hamilton’s team mate Fernando Alonso will start the race down in forth position, after a scruffy second sector of his last flying lap cost him a possible pole position.

Scotland’s David Coulthard is best of the rest, the Scotsman will start the penultimate round of the 2007 season in 5th place. Ahead of Toyota’s Ralf Schumacher, who looked to be struggling in the second part of qualifying today, however this was not the case as Ralf will start tomorrows fifty six lap race in 6th position.

Red Bull Racings Mark Webber will start tomorrows race in 7th position, the Red Bull RB3 is looking competitive, and both Red Bull drivers could collect a handful of points each if all goes well tomorrow.

The two BMW Sauber’s of Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica ended the session disappointed, the two BMW’s ended 8th and 9th ahead of Britain’s Jenson Button, who made it in to the third part of qualifying, and we think Button has filled his car up quite heavily, as weather forecasts predict rain.
