Trailing Renault by upto half a second - Haug

It was there, clear in black and white on the timesheets in recent tests that the McLaren MP4-21 is trailing Renault's 2006 challenger by, on average 0.4 seconds. Norbert Haug, the chief of Mercedes Motorsport Competition, has admitted this, but warned not to count the team out of the running for the win at the weekend.

Haug told Germany's sid agency "We are three to five tenths of a second behind," but was quickto point out the good points: "but no team has been more reliable than us in the first four races of this year."

At an important home race for the Mercedes Benz engine, Haug reminded us that "Last year, Kimi was 31 points behind after four races, and this time only 18."

Currently though, Alonso is leading by 36 points with Michael Schumacher three points ahead of Raikkonen in second. Juan Pablo is in fifth with the same points as fourth placed Giancarlo Fisichella.
