Berger: we checked very carefully

Scuderia Toro Rosso remains committed to using a car that some rival teams have serious objections to. While recently admitting that a possible showdown at Melbourne would be unpleasant, Gerhard Berger is prepared to let the the chips to fall where they may. Berger recently told The Official Formula One website, formula1.com that reports stating that he was completely unfazed by the prospect of legal action by Williams and Spyker were overblown. "What I meant is I am not worried because there is nothing we can do. We checked very carefully on the legal side, on the FIA side. We have checked very carefully the wording of the Concorde Agreement, and it shows very clearly to us that what we are doing is absolutely correct - that we are inside the regulations. We went on a route that even if we wanted we could not go back. It is done.

"If somebody from the other teams has that impression [that the STR2 is illegal], that's the nature of competition. But it is not up to them to judge whether what we are doing is right or wrong. I respect their comments, but in our view we are a hundred per cent fine. It is basically Williams and Spyker who are worried and I know the reason for that - they fear our competitiveness."

Berger also talked about the team's goals for 2007. He wants to keep Super Aguri and Spyker behind STR in the championship standings and hopes to do regular battle with Williams, putting the squad from Grove behind them in the standings as well.
