The tale of divergant Monaco luck continued on race day for the Scuderia Toro Rosso boys. While Vitantonio Liuzzi would be out of the running early on, Scott Speed would put in what many people are calling the best performance of his F1 career so far.

Tonio would crash out on lap two near Ste. Devote when he lost control after cresting the hill. While he intially believed that a first turn incident had damaged his car's diffuser, it was later determined that he had actually recieved a cut tyre in the melee. "It was a real shame because I had a reasonably good starting position and was optimistic that I could do something good this afternoon."

Scott's day would be far better. Starting 18th, he would pick up five places in the opening two laps (one of them courtesy of Liuzzi's misfortunes). He contiinued to run a strong and consistant race thoughout the rest of the event, finishing just out of the points in ninth. "In terms of the strategy maybe I should have pitted a bit earlier, but Kimi (Raikkonen) was out of reach anyway", Speed explained. "I enjoyed myself. Every time for the last 15 laps I was hoping someone would drop out and that I'd see my pit board go from P9 to P8 to get that point, but it never happened."

Team Principal Franz Tost and co-owner Gerhard Berger were full of praise for the sophmore American driver.

"Scott had a very good start," Tost asserted, "going from 18th to thirteenth and he had his best-ever race for Toro Rosso. He deserved a point because he was always pushing very hard and the lap times were very consistent and very fast. All I can say to him is thanks and congratulations for a job well done."

Scott drove a superb race," added Berger. "Today's performance shows the team has potential and hopefully that will be realised soon."
