It's time to call this relationship "over" - at least that's what Scott Speed is now saying publicly. After a short and disapointing day at the European GP, neither Scott, team mate Vitiantonio Liuzzi or anyone from the Scuderia Toro Rosso squad had anything to say - publicly.
Now reports are surfacing that PLENTY may have been said privately. After making his initial report to team principal Franz Tost in the STR garages after the inicident, Scott was reportedly turning to leave when Tost made a grab for him in what one witness called an "assault".
This came on the day after Speed "vented" his frustrations with his situation at STR to a reporter from SpeedTV, saying: “Gerhard and Franz have their own ideas about what they want to do with their future, and they say things accordingly. That’s nothing to do with my performance on the track, that’s for sure. It’s clear that from my bosses me and Tonio both have very little support.
“It’s been that way for the last two years, and it’s a lot more now. At some point I said I don’t care -- if I’m not in F1 next year, if I’m with a different team, it’s OK for me. It’s actually made me lot more relaxed and a lot more calm, and I think I’m producing better results, actually.
“It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to read the press and know that Franz and Gerhard are pushing like hell to get rid of me and Tonio.”
Berger and STR have just over one week left to exercize their "option" on the services of Champ Car standout Sebastien Bourdais for 2008, and they have also been said to have an interest in BMW test driver Sebastian Vettel. Other recent rumors say that Toyota driver Ralf Schumacher may be in contention for a seat at STR next year.
