Scuderia Toro Rosso technical director Giorgio Ascanelli is notably absent from the Hockenheim paddock, and this is fueling suspicions that the long time F1 garage veteran may be parting company with the squad from Faenza.
Rumours abound that Ascanelli is unhappy with the team's direction, especially as it relates to budget priorities. After scoring championship points in the first two GPs of the season, STR has been in a complete drought since.
When asked about Giogio's whereabouts, team principal Franz Tost replied that; "All I can say is that Giorgio is on holiday and that there is confidentiality between the two parties."
I'll post a follow up to this article as soon as further developements warrent.

well whilst i haven't been following TR as closely as some it should be quite clear that the car is performing badly. i have noticed that, all things being equal, both drivers are quite often just hundredths off each others times.
this tells just one thing...it is the car and not the drivers. i was hoping that TR would be right up there this season but alas, it has been a great disappointment.
hopefully they will be able to come back in the second half and give the drivers a chance to get better results.

I'm not as sure about the drivers as K1. I think that the times do indicate the cars need more pace but I seem to like knowing a driver's record, like Kimi verses Grosjean or Alonso/ Massa. It gives a reference point to work from better than two lesser known pilots.

well sessions, the way i see it is that with two young hotshots out to make a name and get a long term future base, that they will giving it their all to impress.
then when they show results that are almost identical it seems to me that they are literally wringing the neck of the car and it just doesn't respond.
ricciardo has had more experience and he can't make a break. verge is greener but none the less he throws his all into getting a result. given these two variables between them shows that when their times are almost identical that it is 99% the car and not the driver.
with the release of ascanelli it also seems to indicate that the car was not improving and there needed to be a change. maybe james key can do something with it. however, at this late stage of the season it will be difficult. better to focus on '13 and let this season play out.

Drivers do not just drive the car, they drive development. If the car is not right, the drivers need to take some responsibility there too. People are now questioning the wisdom of two rookies in a single team.

I can only assume that it is Daniel & JEV's feedback that he is using to determine what these upgrades should be. Therefore, I am reluctant to place any of the blame at their feet.

if i recall correctly it was DR who was seeking some verification of ascanelli’s status as he was concerned as to where the development would be coming from.
