Van der Garde stepped up and raced internationally, continuing with Team CRG Holland he became world champion in Formula Super A. In 2002, Van der Garge progressed in Dutch formula Renault with Van Amersfoort racing where he won best rookie and finished the season forth.

Van der Garde had been racing in the F3 Euroseries for the past three seasons, although in this tough series good results have been far and few between. For the first two seasons he finished 9th, highlights being his two podiums with team Rosberg. In 2006 with team ASM, Van der Garde showed he is a driver on the up by finishing in the championship a career best in 6th, but behind other F1 prospects such as Sebastian Vettel (2nd) and Kohei Hirate (3rd).

Being only 21, the young Dutch driver still has plenty of time to showcase his potential and prove he is a winner. Super Aguri has seen something in him, but time will tell whether he is good enough to be a future racer in F1.
