Flag-To-Flag

It has been about 1 & 1/2 seasons (since Sonoma in '09) since anyone has posted a flag-to-flag victory in the IndyCar Series, but Will Power pulled that feat off yesterday at Barber Motorsports Park. While chaos - and the occasional carange - reigned behind him, the Aussie seemingly motored serenely along his way to another win.

“That is one of the easiest races I have done physically," said Power. “I have been training really hard for the season and Scott Dixon was pushing me to the limit at the end. It was a lot of fun and I am really happy for the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske car. Leading the race from flag to flag just came down to getting the jump start and staying consistent the whole time with where I started. It came down to holding Scott Dixon off until the end.”

Dario Franchitti followed Dixon home in third, and Marco Andretti finished fourth. Oriol Seriva drove a solid race to place fifth, and Tony Kanaan made up for a horrible qualifying effort to blaze through the field and finish sixth.

The Firestone Indy Lights Series support race was also a flag-to-flag affair, with Victor Garcia notching his first series victory.

The IndyCar Series will race again this upcomming Sunday on the hictocis Long Beach CA city street circut. The race begins at 1:30pm ET/6:30pm GMT.
